10B 8 lug front?

Did any of the 3/4 ton 8 lug fronts come with a 10b? or were they all d44's?

Reason I ask is, I would love to put the eaton from my 10b rear into the front.
 
All years of straight axle 3/4 tons from 73 to 87 ( 91 in Subs ) were 8 lug , so YES 10 bolts were 8 lug too up front .

Any 10 bolt diff will physically fit into the housing up front , and all truck carriers were the same from 2.73 , 3.08 , 3.42 , 3.73 , and 4.10 ( only gears in our 1/2 and 3/4 ton ) .

Now why you would want to have a limited slip up front is beyond me , not spinning and suddenly grabbing os not so good on your long side shaft , its even worse than totally locked and applying too much throttle when you have the tire in an undercut :thumb:
 
Almost every 3/4 ton truck from '78 on had an 8-lug 10-bolt front. But in any case whether it's 6, 8 or 20 lug it doesn't make any difference to the differential.

They did switch from 28-spline to 30-spline axleshafts in the late-80's ('88-'89) so you do have to make sure the diff is from the same era.

The only reason I pose this question is, I see a lot of people with 8 lug d44's; I didnt really know which one mine was. I still have not swapped over, but I have a relatively new eaton posi in the rear of my 10b- less than 20k on it. It grabs fast. At idle in the snow or ice, both wheels will spin (with the wheels in the front chocked, of course).

Im not a skinny pedal person, so I tend to try and finness my way over. Thats why I thought it would be nice to to have a LSD in the front, and hence, the question of whether the eaton would fit.

One of the only reasons Im upgrading from a 10b to a 14bsf is because the sf is 4.10 gears while my 10b is 373. Im running 33's or 35's, and while the 10b has held up fine... I like the little extra margin of error. Its also good, in that I can standarize my trucks on one lug pattern.
