So to you guys that still wheel with 10 bolts with tires larger then 35's how do things hold up. I've only broken 1 stub shaft with 35's and that was from being stupid, and its probably pushing the limits of durability with 35's anyway.
would really like to go up a tire size or 2 fromt he 35's and do from trimming around the fenders to get rid of some rust. But i'm worried that i might run into breakage problems too often with say a 36 or 37 inch tire.

so how well do your 10 bolts handle larger tires? wont be any hardeore wheeling just some mud/trails and maybe some rocks no care size boulders or anything, and being my DD i will need to be somewhat reliable.

and i will be running 4.10's and a 700r4

I run 10bolts and have not had a problem running 37s but I stay off the skinny pedal in the rocks and pick lines carfully but they will stay together as long as they dont have a gov bomb.

3/4 ton,513s,locked 38 boggers....first time out in mud...

thats was a new u joint too...

i have a heavy foot so im saving up for a 60 now

keep it open and you will be ok. the second you lock it, you start blowing shafts.

i beat on mine some with 40s and it held up. never broke a shaft or anything, but the little bearings hated life

yeah keep it open. i ran 38s on 10 bolt axles for about 5 years and only broke one front axle shaft and that was cause i punched it on rocks.

just keep it easy and know you have half tons. like dont floor it to 6000rpms let off then punch it again or floor it and jump the truck yeah your gonna break stuff.

i like it, i also dont do any "hardcore" 'froadin but i dabble in a few mudholes every once in a while. i go pedal to the metal but its only mud. not much of a rock fan so no real experience in that terrain. if you replace that gov lok with something like a 30spl detroit and an open front i bet you can hold up well in 38s or around there. with 4.10s and 37-8 tires it will be a dog and you wont really have that much power to really bust something good.

I run 3/4 ton axles and 38s with a 700 and 4.10s and i still haven't broken anything (knock on wood). I am hard on my truck I do rock /mud/trails but im still open front and rear but will be getting a lincond locker for the 14BFF:D

I like these answers, i have a posi in the rear no govloc and the front is open.

looks like i will be replacing my 35's with 37's and trimming some fenders :D:D:D to get rid of some rust..... now just have to do some work on my crappy brakes since i barely stops with the 35's

37x13x15 boggers here i come !!

sorry for highjack
well this thread makes me feel better, cause i just put some 36/14.5 tls on my truck and i was scared about how easy i would have to take it if I wheeled it. Since most ppl tell you that 35s are the limit for halfton axles and hearing and seeing 33s break and axle just doing a burnt out.

But today I had to see if mine would break with a burnout:doah:. Luckly nothin broke, but a 14.5 inch tire is hard to get spining on fresh concrete, but leaves some killer marks:D.

10 bolt front locked with 37" MTR's. 3 broken stock shortside axles (one with 35's) and one broken/twisted Chromoly shortside & longside axles.

Front isn't as concerning as the rear IMO. Rear w/37's is highly questionable for offroad use even beefed. I know guys who have snapped axles, R&P's, lockers, twisted tubes, chromo axles, etc with 12 bolt which are supposed to be a little stronger then 10b's with only 35" tires and good offroad use.

With 35s and an open i had no problems but did rip 3 posi's in half before i ended up with an open, and each time it was on the street but then i do drive with a very heavy foot, that all happened with a 350 when i dropped the 454 in i put a 14ff in

i think i wheel pretty smart, but you AZ guys really step up on the wheelin half tons. seriously, i cant even compete. if you want a really good thread with some good content, search for a thread called "10b action pics" or something along those lines. i started it a while ago and theres alot of good info there, alot of folks are still running the 10bf with a 14ff. pretty awesome pics in that thread.

Someone on here was running 42s (!) with a 10b front. The thread Obijuan was talking about had some good vids and pictures of guys beating on them.

I would recommend getting a 16" or larger wheel (Not a 16.5) as you may want to upgrade axles later, and you dont want to be stuck with $1200 worth of tires that wont fit over the bigger brakes of some of the larger axles!
