Warped brake backing plate locked up my rear DS wheel and exploded everything. I can’t find anything anywhere for a replacement…anyone have this issue? What’s my solution hahaha!

Welcome @CamCal

Being in long beach you have plenty of pick a part type wrecking yards around. Would very helpful if you gave us the year make and model, also which year axle you think you have.

Didn't they once sell a loaded brake plate?

All stock, 10 bolt 6 lug. Thinking about it now, im concerned the flange may be bent…so even finding the correct back plate isn’t gonna help me

It’s from my ‘85 K5.
Thank you for the quick response, this is frustrating as usual with a limited amount of financial support

Ok, one step at a time then

Have a carpenters level or a square?

And I will say, unless you hooked godzilla at mach 3, that flange probably isn't bent.
If it is, it might have been shipped that way

Yes, just crossed my mind this morning about the flange alignment this morning so im pulling the axle now and gonna cross my fingers

Update:
So, i did tweak the flange…
On the plus side I did find a couple loaded plates on ebay from a guy in Ontario! Unfortunately they are 2” so had to get new drums. Did not want to down size, but nothing in the boneyard matched up, so should be fine (i already upgraded front to wilwood dual piston). In the mean time, noticed one of the spider gears was showing early pitting, so replaced as well.
Gonna space out the tweaked flange so i can put back together and move it out of the drive way to finish my previous project .

So then where’s the picture of what got smashed by that axle?

:sign6:

I’m can’t figure out how to load photos. Haha!
Yeah you’re being punished for being a newbie. The software has its quirks. If you still around, the membership is worth it and bypasses all that

Haha, make sure it’s worth your while. But I’ve been here a day or two, might be biased

just thinking out loud here, but aren't the axles going to be to long for the 2" wide drums ? If so just put your 2.75" shoes and hardware on the new to you plates and use your drums.

No actually I was worried about that too when i bought them, but found a mustang forum with guy swapping 2” up to 2.75” with great info:
Because the 3” plate is offset to the inside all you need is the correct drum size. If it was wider to outside (based off the housing flange) no adjustment would be possible because the drum would hit the wheel.
When i measured my 3” plate vs the new 2” its flange mouting surface was 1/2” out board, moving the pad surface inboard.
My guess is that GM was smart enough to realize backplates are cheaper and than axles?
I’ll post pictures in a minute

So the pics are the inboard sides (mounted to flamge). You can see on the caliper that it’s near 1/2” in a n the 3” original.
Can’t use the 3” drum on the 2” plate because it’s set inside, it will bottom on the playe before contacting the axle. Larger height pads require more inboard space
