12 Bolt and 14 Bolt Questions

[ QUOTE ]
I can still get 8s for 35 and 10s for 40 I think.

DOH! /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif

i just bought some used 8 lug 16x10 eagle alloy 589's from a dude on POR.

the only places i could find that had the 15x10 8 luggers was 4wpw and tyres1.com.... and the ones at 4wpw had like 2.5" bs which is not enough for me. the ones at tyres1 have 4" wish is what i want(ed), but were almost 90 bucks. do you know the baskspacing on those 40 dollar 15x10's? oh yeah, i was only looking for the "chrome mod" type steel wheels, black wheels don't look good on mine. if i can find 15x10 chrome steel wheels with 4" bs cheap enough, i'll buy some and sell the alloy 16's.

You can get the rims local at Discount Tire. That is where I have gotten my sets from before. They come white, and I painted them black. They work fine for me.

Paul, wasn't that you that we had to push side to side on Upper Raw Deal because you where high centered on the 12 bolt? /forums/images/graemlins/histerical.gif

Back to the subject. Both the 12 bolt and 14bff will work. If you decide to get the 14bff make sure you SHAVE it otherwise you will be going nowhere fast offroad. Ask Matt (az-k5) the difference in running a unshaved vs shaved 14bff offroad. Also do yourself a favor and shave it before it is in the truck. It will be alot easier.

Isn't that like "Middle Woodpecker"?! ... right by the turn off to Woody's Wash?

Marv

Yes, Marv it is. I managed to only scrape a little bit of rocker panel /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I picked up the 14 Bolt with 4.10. The wheels are on the way. Does the 4.10 set up have the same carrier as the 4.56? A friend of mine, in MN, told me this. Is this is true? I will order the Detroit Locker and gears this week.

4.10 and 4.56 are 2 different carriers in the 14bff. You can buy 4.56 gears that are "thick" to fit on the 4.10 carrier though. I run them in my 14bff.

There are some massive lips on those 14 bolts. Mine isn't that big and I haven't even begun to shave it yet. Think there is a difference between a Van and truck 14 bolt on the lip??

I don't think so, but I do know that 14 bolts make great rock anchors without being shaved.

Luckily the PO of my rear axle did that for me, before I got it. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

The 10s are 3.75" backspacing.

Getting them locally will save you shipping. 4 wheel parts has them.

Yeah I found the massive lip when I started taking off the schock mounts and old spring perches. Have alot more /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif to do to it before it goes underneath.

keep in mind that the 12 bolts under the trucks have a smaller diameter pinion gear stem than other axle models including the car version 12 bolt

12 bolt pinion is about the weakest one youll come across,

but then you never really hear of anything in them being busted cept for shafts, or when the pinion nut is allowed to completely back off when you dont ke4ep an eye on it and check it now and then with the torque wrench,. ive seen alot of truck 12 bolt die due to the latter.,

been seeing some dana 44 fronts have this problem lately too, pinion nut bnacks off alot, slop in pinion gear! can mean kaboom in near future if not tightened back up and thread locked in place
