Life is not good. My brakes got grabby and I saw oily stuff on the lug nuts. I assumed it was the wheel cylinders. After finally getting the drum off I see that it's the oil seal. :doah:

Can someone give me a brief description of what it takes to do this job? Do I need to open the diff cover and get at this famed C-clip to pull the axle out? What else?

I have an auburn limited slip by the way. Does this complicate the removal of the axles?

pull the cover, remove bolt that holds pin in, usually 5/16", remove pic, push axle inward slighlty to remove c clip, pull out axle. If axle has any wear where the bearing rides, replace axle.

a couple tips to add to that, try not to spin the axle at all after pulling out the axle shaft, the spider gears will fall out and can be a pain to put back in.

also when you take that bolt that holds the center pin in if its broke and it probably will be, you can usually get in there with a pick or small screwdriver and back it out. ive done axles seals on about 6 axles and everytime that bolt was broken.

but all in all its a pretty easy job to do. you can pop the old seal out with a screwdriver or whatever and tap the new one in with a rubber hammer
