Hi all,

I,m rebuilding a 12 bolts axle out of a 79´jimmy and i have found that both shafts are differents and also are the bearings .

I guess the correct shaft is the one wich fits into the bearings of the rebuilt kit.The other one is too flat in the bearing area and it does not fit .

Are there two kinds of shafts for the 12 bolts?

I have a pic but it doesn,t allow me to upload it

Thanks

There are two kinds , 2wd 5 lug , and 4wd six lug . All 30 spline . Should be same diameter the entire production run . With the 2wd a slightly different width for different trackwidth and brakes .

I have stuck 73 axles into a 77 housing , and carry spares from an 81 . And have swapped 2wd axles out for 4wd axles to make a 5 lug a six lug .

Now there are 30 spline 10 bolt shafts which may seem to fit , but they slide around and could cause the c-clips to come out since they are shorter than 12 bolts due to center pin differences between 10 and 12 bolts .

You may have the wrong rebuild kit .

Has somebody seen some shaft like this?

Could it be that this shaft was broken and somebody repaired it?
I don,t know if can trust on it,or it would be better to get a stock one..

Thanks

The axle on the left appears to be an aftermarket axle. Being it's an aftermarket axle it might use a propietary axle bearing (not sure why but you never know). Look for a name on the end of the axle MW (Mark Williams) they make alot of axles for different vehicles, another maker of aftermarket axles is Mosier. Other than that i have no idea or answer for you.
