14 bolt blocks

IMG00138-20110624-1948.jpg

is there supposed to be a nipple in there? i have looked up pictures and i cant find another 14 bolt with those in...

Can't immediately think of any vehicles that came stock with 'em.

However, you just need blocks for GM springs, i.e. 2.5" wide, nothing weird about 'em.

Also note that many folks prefer lift springs, even for the rear, or a shackle flip, rather than blocks.

i dont know what it came out of originally but im trying to remove my lift blocks in the rear and then there is these damn nipples and im straight stumped.... cant have my truck like it is where i live for long and no that i found this out i have no clue what to do. i looked up pics of other 14 bolts and none have that nipple k30

now i get it. looks like the pin for the lift block is rusted in the stock perch. try takin a 3-4 lb mini hammer and hammer it loose. or if you have a air hammer rattle the area around the pin.

vary common in the rust belt. and some guys dont clean the hole when thay install a block and the pin gets jambed in the hole bad over the years.

I learn something new every day.

It would be a serious pain to drill that out, and cutting those perches off and welding on new ones won't happen quick either.

You could go with a very small block, i.e. ~1" ... a set of ORD's Zero Rates or DIY4X's EZ-Inch should just about bridge the gap between your springs and the pin on the perch.

Ordinarily the zero rate/ez-inch is bolted into the spring pack, but you could use them as a smaller version of your existing blocks. It's a thought.

alright im going to give it a try.. i dont have a welder so i cant weld new ones on

10+ years as a truck guy and mechanic i tell ya the pin is rusted/wedged in the hole. if you look close in the pic the hole tapers down to the center of the pin.

cheeper lift blocks run a drilled hole with a light pressed in steel pin. thay can and do come out. i have had them fall out new out of the box before. so its easy to get one frozen in the stock hole.

Oh oh oh. I thought you meant the factory perches had the pin cast into them. :doah: Seemed kinda weird to have the pin instead of a hole, but :dunno:

Justin, ignore what I said. Get you a can of panther piss (PB Blaster, penetrating oil, whatever) and soak them things overnight, then bang on the nub with a sledge.

hay dremu what will realy blow your mind is the newer trucks with 2 centerpins in the spring pack and perchs. :eek1::whistle::doah:

Yak now, I fink I saw you posting about that in another thread ... you think they do it to keep the springs from wiggling, or to keep them pack from popping apart, or ...?

prob both reasons.

but what has me and a lot of old time spring shop guys stumped is why 2 pins that close . ?

any hole in a leaf is a weak point of the spring steel. then 2nd that close almost = early death. but its workin sofar so go figure.

Yeah, well, longevity isn't on the mind of the Big Three as of late, I don't think.

Weirdness is, though... I remember when I first saw those 7-lug Fords, did a quadruple take counting them.
