Ok... first off why is there no write up on 14 bolt disc brake conversions.... maybe it is supposed to be bolt off... bolt on.....

My RANT......
DIY brackets.... 1976 K20 front rotors.....
the first picture is on the passenger side..... from what I can tell the caliper is supposed to go behind the bracket.....

The second picture is drivers side..... caliper bolted to bracket... bracket loss to "see" if there is supposed to have a washer or something on there..... there has to be 3/4 of a inch off.....

Also my calipers are from a 94-96 Caprice front disc brake... with the pads you have to drive them on the rotor..... rotor is 1 1/4 inch thick...

I called Kert from DIY and ran every thing by him... he said it all seemed right to email him some pictures but it would be this afternoon before he could look at the... I am at the shop now wanting to get this fixed.... some body HELP!!!!

In the second picture, there's a donut between the bracket and the flange... that shouldn't be there. What year/vehicle did your axle come from?

This is a 3/4 ton 14BFF from a ~77 Burb:

My brackets are a bit different -- solid spacer instead of the bend -- but you see how they bolt flush up against the flange.

I'm thinking the donut can be made to come off, though it may take force :D

Finally got the passenger side on there... beating the hell out of it... prying and cursing.... BUT... the pads are sooooo tight the rotor will not spin.....

The axle is off a 1976 K20 truck.....

And yeah, it should be a bolt-on. I don't know about your calipers, though, as the kits are all designed for the 3/4-ton front calipers / Caddy rears, which are all basically the same size.

Your calipers may be the same size but with different (i.e. metric) fittings, but the pads may differ as well.

Did you just happen to have a set of Caprice calipers, or did you see a write up somewhere listing them?

Ohh, the donut is just the inside of the flange.

Donno about the calipers. You could see if your front pads fit -- maybe the pads are thinner?

Caprice rotors are 1 inch thick as you can see from the first pic....

The second pic is my 14 bolt spindle..... 7 1/2 wide....

third pic is 14 bolt rotor and spindle... which is apx. 6 inches wide.....

Maybe that is my problem... the calipers I am using... the impala/caprice calipers may be metric.... but the flex hose bots right up to the 14 bolt hard line.....

Caprice calipers are 2 3/4 inches wide inside opening...... my front dana 44 calipers are 3 inches wide inside......

Sooooooo...... is that my problem?

Does look like it.

I'm pretty sure the kits all specify the 3/4 front calipers ... why are you using the Caprice calipers?

The flex hose for the calipers is prolly 10mm on the caliper side and 3/8" on the hardline side ... as long as you didn't have to torque them in hard, you should be okay.

im thinking what everyone else is...id go with 3/4 ton calipers...arent 1/2 ton rotors 12"...3/4 ton 12.5" and 1 ton 13"? maybe the 1/2" difference is throwing things off.

I used Ruff Stuff brackets (which are very similar to yours), '85 3/4T front calipers and '75 front rotors on a 14BFF from a '78 C20. I did have to grind a little off the top of the caliper to clear the wheel and just a hair off the insides of the caliper bracket to get the caliper to drop down in. After that it went right together. Works great! :waytogo:

I've never heard of anybody using Caprice calipers. :dunno:

I don't remember you mentioning the caprice calipers. That's got to be what your fighting.

Everything else in the setup looks right from the pics.

Ya where did you get the idea to run those random calipers when everyone everywhere uses either stock chevy 4x4 calipers or the cadillac ones. Use the right ones and i bet your problem will go away.

As everyone else is asking, where the heck did you get the idea or hear of using Caprice calipers? Thats a new one. Never heard of using anything but 1/2 or 3/4 ton calipers and Caddy calipers, too.

I was under the impression that good ol GM single piston calipers from big chevy was what was needed..... I also had a couple laying around from back when I was in the Caprice days... they fit in the DIY brackets great..... oh well..... more money I guess...... Thanks for the help guys......

P.S. couple pics of those BEASTS from back in the day.......
