14 bolt gov-lok carrier

If I were to have a 14 bolt gov-loc differential, could I just change the carrier and locker? Or is there actually something different with the casing?

Change it to what? Open diff and Detroit lockers use a different carrier all together from the gov-lock.

I'm wondering if the actual differential housing is different, in other words, can I swap all the guts or is a gov lok differential housing specific to the gov lok setup

just the carrier the ring gear bolt to is different .

Yes, you can. As long as you know how to set up gears.
