14 bolt wheel bearings

Even with the race bottomed out on the ring the bearing should still spin. Which way is the bearing/race installed - with the bearing inboard towards the leaf springs or towards the outside? It should be on the outside. If the bearing is on the inside the cage might hit the ring.

the narrower side is towards the outside when the hub is installed like this <<==o==>>

so i have to drop the bearing in then put the race in then the snap ring???

maybe i shouldn't have waited 6 months to put it back together after i took it apart...:doah:

That's correct - bearing 1st / race 2nd / ring 3rd :thumb:

Don't forget to pick up a couple of seals before you tear it down. Nothing worse than a panic run back to the Zone before they close. :wink1:

It's all good, I just happen to be fresh on this since I recently put my D70 back together. Had to stare at it a minute before it made sense again. :rotfl:

i cant ever get those seals out without destroying them...

Can you take some pics? For some reason this is not bringing back any memories of me doing this.

What does this have to do with his issue? The bearings are oiled with the gear oil.

I actually had this issue come up years ago on my first full floating rear D60 I was working on, at the time I was told the bearings were lubed by the gear oil but I couldnt see oil getting in there soon enough with the volume I thought they needed to be properly protected, long story short, many phone calls to axle manufacturers as well as bearing mfgs. the primary lube for load carrying bearings on FF axles is grease.
