got my alternator in the mail today..
and just looking at it..

question 1:
How does one get the pulley off?
There appears to be a allen wrench bolt in the middle and a 15/16 nut on the outside....

so off with my first question...

take an impact wrench to the 15/16" nut, mine wasnt held on with all that much force, was able to hold the fan with one hand and use the gun with the other hand and it came right off.

Once you get the nut off, if the pulley doesn't come right off just pry slightly with a couple of screwdrivers. You say you got your alternator in the mail, where did you get it from? and how much?

Edit: never mind I read it in another thread.....

yeah still working on this part... couldnt get it off... so going to try and put it in a vice at my neighbors house... a vice.. something yet so simple but I dont own!!!!!
Try just hitting it with an impact wrench while holding the pulley by hand. Usually this is all that it takes to get the nut off. If you try and do it with a hand wrench or ratchet it is not going to move.

Jeebus!

Mind you, the one I got was a fresh rebuild, so the pulley and nut weren't crusted on. Since yours is used, maybe soak it in penetrating oil and then whang on it again with the impact.

Loosens Frozen Metal Parts!
An industry proven penetrating oil that has no equal. Quickly loosens
rusted nuts and bolts - frees frozen shafts, pulleys, etc. Penetrates to 1

, dissolves rust, lubricates, cleans and prevents rust.
Displaces moisture. The oil that creeps. Used by 480 of the Fortune
500 companies!

You might try bolting the alternator up, putting a belt on it, THEN hitting it with the impact.

I've had some pretty bad luck with that nut myself. They don't make allen wrenches long enough or strong enough to hold the shaft in place while you use a box end on the nut in my experience.

When you do get the nut off, and install the v pulley, DON'T forget the red loctite for the nut. I forgot and spun the nut off....it wasn't pretty. left a nice dent in the hood.
