140amp alt with a vbelt

been running my aftermarket unit for 12+ years now i think if not older than that . its a serp belt but does great .

also dont forget to make a new alt to battery power cable or you can SMOKE the stocker with the amps .

https://alternatorparts.com/extreme-duty-dual-rectifier-cs-144-type.html . . . there price is up these days but go figure from how many years ago i got mine .

I was thinking powermaster 140 but I won't do cs130, ever.

Maybe a cs144. Si10 and 12 no problem.
Could go 160amp 3 phase Leece Naviel with external rectifier and adjustable voltage regulator.

I ran a double V belt pulley for a cs144. It slipped enough to go serpentine. Serpentine was WHOA awesome. No more alternator problems and it really woke up the power steering. I guess that was slipping more than I knew.

When I found that recommendation from Powermaster about how to check the belt tightness I realized I hadn't been running my v-belts nearly tight enough. I had to put a lot more leverage effort in to get the belt tight enough, way more leverage than I had been doing.

I have had trouble with a serpentine setup slipping. Chased an issue on a SuperDuty with the 6.0L Powerstroke we owne years ago. Finally fixed the problem by installing a Ford Motorcraft belt in place of the Napa belt I was using. Seemed like the only way that 6.0L worked right was if absolutely everything was from Motorcraft.

I have a 140A on my 6.2 diesel and it's hard on belts. The harmonics of the diesel likely exacerbate the issue but it requires tightening every 3-4 months and a new belt every year-ish.

I suffer from the V-belt adjustment issues on both of my M1009 CUCV’s. So I know the pain of trying to keep 4 100 amp alternators from squealing. I also agree that a serpentine setup is better.

That being written, I went through several CS130 alternators on my Cowdog Suburban. 4 in 4 years actually. Last summer I got tired of them and went with an AD244. Same amp rating, But it puts it out at idle. I can run the glow plugs, fire it up and put both front and rear air conditions on max with 14.2- 14.7 on the volt meter with the truck still at idle.

Besides being from the early duramax trucks which makes them a generation newer than the CS series. They have a different plug than the CS130. Same plug and mount as the CS130D though.
