I have one of those 14b ff converted to 6 lug frankenstein rear ends. I'm pretty sure its 12b axle shafts but not sure. It has the 10.5in ring.

What locker would I order for it? The 14b ff to match the carrier?

well can you pull the spiders and count the splines? it could have queer 14 bolt inner shafts but look like 12 bolts on the lug studs. the best way to see is the spiders i guess.

Yeah true but I dont wanna pull anything til I have the locker to install :D

Then have fun when you are shipping the wrong locker back and your **** is torn apart:rolleyes:. Since you have a one-off axle you either need to get ahold of the guy who built it and ask him the spline count or do what was said before and take it apart and count.

You said it is a 14FF, if that is the case undo the axle flange bolts and pull the axle to count the splines.

I would tend to believe it is the standard 14FF shafts and carrier with aftermarket hubs unless it is no longer a FF but converted to SF status.

Yeah its not a full floater anymore.

The general thing I have heard is that these types of axles are a 14b housing with 12b shafts in them.

Whatys the spline count on 12b shafts and what is the count on 14b shafts

I calll BS--i need a pic----that make entirely no sence. the shafts in a 12are equal length, the 14 are not. unless you have a 14 sf that came factory in a lot of higher end 1500 90's trucks and most 2500's.

Trust me its a 14b ff housing.

I believe the 12 bolt is 30 spline and I know the 14FF is 30 spline but I am sure the axle diameters are different between the two.

I would gamble to say you have a custom set of axles for a 14FF center section with SF ends.

Is it C clip or is there a retaining plate at the flange side to hold the axle in?

No BS here. I had one and sold it for a true 14FF. The pumpkin was a 10.5 and was recentered so that the axle shafts would be equal length. The conversion used 12 bolt axles that were held in with pressed in bearings and the plate and the end of the tube (c-clip eliminator kit)...essentially making it a really stout 14SF. Mine had a factory 14FF posi. If Stomis's is anything like mine, a 14FF Detroit should work.

Here's pics of it in my old for sale thread:

So somebody makes a custom one-off carrier (or side gears) that bolts into a 14FF housing but uses 12-bolt shafts????? 12-bolt shafts are 30-spline just like the 14FF, but are only about 1.31" diameter while the 14FF shafts are around 1.5". There is no way you could slide 12-bolt shafts into a stock 14FF carrier.

If that's the case (which I highly doubt) then you are completely screwed as there is no on-the-shelf locker available for this.

I would tend to think that more likely they are custom built shafts with the same spline diameter as a 14FF with the retainers on the end (like a SF D60 shaft).

No C clips. I agree though the shafts are a custom made deal for a 14FF/SF hybrid that uses bearing retainers like a 9" rear. Seems easier to put a 9" in to me and get more ground clearance but to each there own.
