can i swap the carrier and pinion from a 80 14ff w/3.73 open carrier to a 73 housing that currently has 4.10 open carrier?
i did a search and came up with a yes but i'm still not sure if i'll have to reshim the pinion for depth. this is really my question will i have to reshim??

can anyone, who has actually done this please post up??

odds are you can just transfer over the pinion assembly and carrier from the axle, along with any shims it had in there....
but the safe way to do this is actually check the pattern and reshim as necessary. you dont want to have the rear end break on you because you didnt perform something so simple

I Have done it several times with no problems, just check the mesh patterns when you are done like mechted said. keep track of how many turns of the carrier shim/adjustment collars you made on the old housing and use this as a start point in the new housing
