So I went to the J yard yesterday, pulled out a fine 14BFF for my 88K5. Took it apart today to inspect and see what needed to be replaced and saw the Gov Lock peices were stripped of their gears.

Any idea how this would happen? Also where can i get replacement parts for this?

I can post pics if my description was too vague. Thanks!

What parts do you need?
I just swapped out my Govbomb for a minispool, a few months back. I still have most of the parts, I think.
In fact, it'll just cost you shipping, get all this metal **** out of my garage!
Let me know!

I think I have all that stuff. Let me look tomorrow after church. It's all in a bucket, under my Crew cab. I'm sure I have most of it, if not all of it. Stick around tomorrow, I'll get it rounded up.
Like I said, yours for shipping costs!

we need to make a deal here
he gets a membership subscription
then he gets free (+shipping) replacement parts:D
then we get pictures of this 88 K5, poser and action shots
or the other way is cool enough too:woot:

I believe I still have a good actuator (first picture), my side gear however is welded into my carrier. Shoot me a PM if you need it, as I have zero use for it.

The slop in the design is terrible, and the reason they always get messed up. It's too bad, because the function and design is actually pretty effective...just really poorly implemented.

Alright so I went to the J yard today and got a new carrier that has some good Govlok parts.

I did notice something, and am confused about is that the spider gears are bigger in this one. This is out of a 91 Burb and the axle I got was out of a 79 pickup.

I want to buy some 4.56 gears, which do I buy? Thick or Thin? Whats the difference?

I tried to search but I was even more confused reading those threads.

Thanks again Guys!

Replacement parts are available through GM, and I actually just priced those parts. The bad part is that new you are looking at around $200 just for the actuator/latch assembly and the the cone gear. I found the parts from a non-GM source and the price was the same, but could take 6 weeks to get.

the carrier spit is 4.10 - down and 4.56 - up for the split.

so if you had 4.10 - 3.73 + you want to go 4.56 then = thick gear.

if you had 4.56 - 4.88 and wanted to go down you would need a carrier and gears.

hope this helps.

and if you were paying member here the tech section has my whole write up on 14ff carriers and how to id them with pics. :thumb:
