this is what i was just told on a jeep cherokee site lol

comming from people who cant run anything bigger than a 33 on a stock axle lmao.

I'm getting my 14bff shaved up to the ring gear and weld on some 1/2" plate.

14
70
80
rockwell
That is the list as I see it, in strength. What were they comparing it to?

axle envy..... it isnt pretty.

"its not the size that matters, its how you use it........." - apparently jeep owners ;)

for the record i used to drive a wrangler, it was fun, im not busting on jeep owners for spite ;)

id rather get hung up once in a while rather than have an axle where if it does break the axle shaft slides out lol.

i dont do the whole rock crawling thing so im not that worried getting hung up, and if i was then id just shave it like previously mentioned.

Whats the actual difference in clearence between a 14 and a 10? Is it really that much worse for ground clearence?

and a k5 weighs how much more than a cherokee...

???

not sure but i was talking about putting a disk brake 14FF in a cherokee and got told its over rated that the dana35 is just fine. ive seen too many people ditching their 35's for 44's.

i could see the 14 being overkill but not over rated.

Whats wrong with overkill? Batter to have and not need than to need and not have right?

For as cheap as one can procure a 14BFF, it is by far the biggest bang for one's buck. Period!

A ton of my friends have jeeps, the number one thing i see all them break are their axles, and most of them already upgraded to 44 front and rear.

I can't see the 14-bolt ever being "over-rated", definitely hard to beat the bang-for-the-buck it gives you. But just as mentioned I could see it being overkill depending on what you are doing, like running 33"-35" tires on the XJ. But if you want to run anything bigger than that good luck keeping a Dana "turdy-five" together.

have you ever seen teh price for a front/rear 44 for a cherokee.... the rear goes for about 400 bucks inplaces....

A 14 bolt is cheap... if you pay more than 150 for a stock it's too much...

The 14bff would be too much for a XJ.

The weight and drag of the big ring gear alone would be a huge power hog on a 4.0L.

Not to mention that the width and bolt pattern are all wrong.

Find a Ford 8.8 from an Explorer with discs. Right width, right bolt pattern, disc brake upgrade and it will be damn near bomb proof in a XJ.

The 14FF is the #1 axle to build for anything over 35 in tires. Sure there more trick axles out there but for the money and strength it can NEVER be beat period. Dyna Track, Portals, Rockwells, you can have um, I will stick with a 14FF.

If you run the C&C version 14bff, it will be perfect for the rear of a jeep, except you have to figure out something about the bolt pattern
