I picked up this 14BFF axle a while back and might be trying to install it this winter. I noticed this bit of mangled metal on the yoke and i'm skeptical as to if it will cause any significant issues. Anyone have a good idea as to whether or not this will cause problems down the road?
doesn't look that bad to me. If the cup fits tight in saddle and the u bolts? guessing, go through the hole run it. I'd check the seal wear area and some sealer on the splines. looks like it was dripping there.

If I replace the yoke i'd put a seal in it just because. Otherwise it actually sat facing down for a long time and didn't leak, so I think the seal is holding. That, or it just doesn't have much gear oil in it. I haven't opened it up yet.
Even if I kept it as is, i'd have to go buy a strap kit. So i'm either spending 20-30 on straps, or $100+ for a new yoke and seal.
Another thing to check is the condition of the threads in that damaged hole - something happened to cause that condition.
In a pinch it might work ( assuming it has the u-joint cup retaining tab like John mentioned ) but if this was being looked at by a reputable shop no way would it be blessed as O.K. because the damage is more than likely more than what’s seen in the picture - the hole could be slightly wallered out ( even if the retaining bolt tightened up ) and loosen over time.
It ain’t worth the risk - put that new yoke on and replace that seal as a maintenance item.
Ya’ could go a step further and replace the crush sleeve or better yet install a crush sleeve eliminator spacer that GM should have used in the first place.
