are all the carrier and gears the same out of 10.5FF 14bolts. like, van or truck, dually or single wheel???? im gonna hit the yard tomm and see if i can find some 4.10 or 4.56's. maybe, just maybe ill find a detroit. the local yards let isht like that slip through their fingers all the time. :D

also, what's the easiest way to tell if they're 4.10 or 4.56 gears, assuming that the glove box is missing(most are), so the rpo codes aren't there.

i don't really like the whole spin and count deal, because i can't rely on my retarded buddies to count correctly. every time we do that, it comes out wrong. haha.

thanks guys(and gals)

Easiest way is to check the ring gear since you're going to pull the cover to inspect the innards. You want a 10 41 marking for 4.10's and a 9 41 for 4.56's. You'll see a build date, lot number then those numbers by themselves.

Like so: xx xxxxxx xx xx 9 41 xx or xx xxxxx xx xx 10 41 xx

No carrier's differ. Open, Gov-Bomb, Detroit are a few. Then you might find a welded open, or spool. DO NOT GET A 4.10 CARRIER IF YOU ARE PUTTING 4.56's and higher in there. 4.56 and up, 4.10 and below.

First off, there is a carrier split, 4.10-down and 4.56-up. All gears are stamped with the teeth count, for instance 41 10 would be a 4.10. I would not try to set-up used gears as they are more than likely to howl on you.

well, this will be my "practice gears" if you will.... i really don't wanna risk ruinning a set of 200dollar brand new gears you know.

manny, can't i get thick and thin gears, for example...in my axle i have 3.73's, i believe i can get special gears for this carrier, but i could be wrong.

thanks alot guys!

I believe you can get the thick set to make up the difference in the carriers, but remember if so, you have to order your locker for the down size. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Manny

Yes you can, but if you're searching the wrecking yard for them i doubt you'll find any.

If using a Detroit it makes no difference as the locker goes inside the original carrier. Also needs to be an open carrier to accept a Detroit.

:waytogo: Thank you!

well, what i hope to find is hopefully some 4.10's or 4.56's...with either carrier, detroit, govbomb,or open....then i will pull them and set them up to see what happens. i think itll only run me like 20 or 30 bucks since i got a whole axle for 100bucks drum to drum.

manny, i didn't realize there were 2different detroits for a 14bolt, i thought there was only one.

STAY AWAY FROM THE GOV-BOMB! YOU'LL BE SORRY!:haha:

in order to run thick gears, you must run a 4.10 and down carrier. the govlocks in the 14b's arent anywhere near as bad as the ones in the 10b's, they are a different design. most people who have them run them til they go, then put in something else.

oh....i ASSumed right for once. haha, thanks guys!!!!!

manny, you about ready to swap panels bro?

I'll tell ya what. Just send that silver beauty up my way and I'll take her off your hands. No fuss, no muss, no panels. I'll just take the truck, thank you very much! :D

:D haha...sounds good....ill drive it there, and then i can drive yours back. ill even throw the 14bolt with the gov bomb in the back, you know you can't turn that down. haha

hey man, by the way, im painting my project truck the same color as yours.

as far as the gov-bomb...i have grenaded one in a 10bolt. and it took out everything when it went too. it was no bueno.

C'mon up! Although I doubt you'll get very far. I don't think your feet will touch the ground. :haha:

ha. maybe not. but still, the 14b gov loc is a completely different animal from the 10b gov-loc. you always hear bout ppl breaking 10b's but ive seen very few post up bout breaking the 14b gov locs ;)
