UPDATE INFO :::::well it came back. broken studs again. found a worn duelly hub on it that was missed before but in normal working conditions would not afect it. the ridge that centers rim bore on hub was worn off in 1 out of 4 spots and 2/3rds off in another.

then we got a good used replacement. installed it . then test drove it with a plan. went to local truck scale and got it weighed. frt gvw is 4000 act is 3880. rear gvw is 7000 act is 8990. total is 10,000 act is 12,870. and he removed 400-500 lbs when at shop to do work out of local truck.

he is well over by 1.5 tons of max gvw rating. what is your info on this now we know what the real world info is. ? ?

at work we have a customer with a p chassie van. full aluminum body like giant bread truck. he has this thing chuck full of heating/electrical/plumbing type stuff. powered by 350 and 4l80-e.

i have asked him before and he said its in the 11500lbs range over a scale.

my question is this to much weight for a daily driver that goes 300-400 miles per trip all day and some times 2-3 states away.

reason i ask is he is having problems keeping studs on the pass side duels. he has had new studs installed on both sides and has new rims also. well today he called 3.5 hrs away and rr studs gone again . . . . . . and 120 is tourqe spec on lug nuts.

what is the gm spec on the daily loads for this axle. and what real world use have you done every day with out fauler. i need to know to help back me up as he is going to try and blame me on this.

i know the tourqe specs on these axles and use them every time ..

at my wits end here help me.

are the knurled studs fully seated on the back side of the hub? If so, its too heavy of a load for that axle. He needs a 70 or 80.

I think that is pushing it for that type of van. Find out what the GVWR is and go from there. If it's under what he got it weighed at, he's at fault. If it's under, then could be the studs are coming loose and snapping off....

Sounds like he should be running something that's hub-centric and maybe 10 lug...

Maybe he should try the ARP lug studs, they'd prolly last longer at the very least.

i'd just ask to see the registration card, then look on the door for the weight ratings if and when he brings it back to the shop. or tell him to look.

Didn't Ford tackle this problem by using left hand threads on the all the studs on the right side of the vehicle?

your thinking MOPAR, I have a car like that 70 duster

I guess you need to verify the GVW of that particuliar vehicle, but I know there are dually pickups that came from the factory with 12,000 lb. GVW ratings and several manufacturers sell service/box body chassis rated well over that with 8-lug axles (14-bolt, D70, or D80...I don't think an 8-lug D80 like those found on Dodge trucks are any different than a D70 at the wheel ends, only larger R&P).

How is the weight distributed? Some of those bodies have quite a bit of rear overhang. He should weigh the rear axle and compare it to the axle ratings.

thanks for the ideas and info guys. will let you all know as soon as i find out. and if back to my shop it will get weighed frt axle then total then rear axle. and last compare this to body tag gvw ratings.

that weight is near the upper limits of the 14 bolt desgin, in 09 its getting thicker tubes and being raised to a 9,000 pound axle so that tell you how much he has the older version overloaded. For that much weight a salsbery axle is at its limits you need a banjo style axle

? ? salsbery and banjo style never heard these terms before .?

If he comes back again and says it's your fault, then show him the scale ticket with the weights on it. Should see what his reggy says he is rated to haul. But he is overloading the truck, that is his fault. You had nothing to do with it failing...
