It would seem to me that he would be accepting of the fact that the weight of the vehicle is the likely problem, since you've shown that it's way overloaded.
I imagine spinning this so that it doesn't look like you are trying to blame him is the way to go, just so he understands that no matter what happens, the problem isn't something you can keep from reoccurring, unless he drops the weight. Not that you aren't willing to help him, simply that it's not possible given the current conditions.
Only other concern is why it's only on the one side. As long as it's not something else going on you are missing, and it's just heavier on that side for instance, then you'll be fine.
Not saying he would, but you have no control over how much weight is in the vehicle when it's not in your possession, so he could be putting 2000lbs more in it!
