14FF & Disc Brakes

I had the Caddy calipers on mine, and they never held - not worth the money. Took them off, and put on the 3/4 ton HD front calipers - huge difference. I put it in 2 low, first gear, and use a wheel chock to hold it for now.
 
That's a good idea for the master cylinder. Will it bolt right up or will it need modification?
 
which soft lines did you get, i just bought the stock front lines and theyre pretty damn long. i could use short ones more like youve got.

Wagner BH106887 on both sides. They were about $10 ea (half the price of the front lines out here).
 
Well I would love to know how that goes. I might do that because I read people had problems getting the rear to adjust properly

The problem isn't adjustment as much as pressure bleeding off so your pedal goes to the floor when you hit the brake. I'll post up more when I get back to finishing it this weekend.
 
Subscribed. Looking forward to hearing how this setup works and if you can use the same proportioning valve. Are you planning to do a driveline brake or leaving out the ebrake entirely?

How do you feel about not having a parking brake? I'd love rear discs in my burb...

As far as the master cylinder goes, are they pretty easy to find and inexpensive?
 
Since I have an automatic, I'll be leaving out the ebrake completely for now. Most of the time I just use this truck on the road with an occational trip offroad. I didn't use the parking brake before the swap.

The master I found in stock at Schucks a couple years ago. I forget what I paid for it, but I think it was about $40 for a brand new one.
 
People who do the rear disc swap and still drive their rigs on the street need to check with your states laws, MOST states require a working e-brake and if your state has annual inspections you won't pass without it. Just something else to think about.
 
As an update... the newer master cylinder did not work with my hydroboost. It would have worked if I had a vacuum booster though. I have also noticed my rear brakes locking up before the fronts on wet pavement. Not a good thing to have, so I will need to add an adjustable proporsioning valve.
 
I just picked up a stock rebuilt unit for now. I want to pickup a newer model hydroboost unit and see if it will fit at some point, but my brakes work too good to change them now.
 
I don't know much about braking systems but I read about a 69 corvette MC being used once. It seemed like a good candidate because it has 4 wheel discs and none of the ABS mess. Sounds like your brakes work good now though.
