Reread the first post. I don't use this rear and probably won't. I traded parts to help out someone else who needed the carriers I had to fit his new 4.88 gears when he had 4.56 to begin with. I'm just trying to put the rear I have back together to resell but I refuse to do so with bad parts.

sorry, should have read it all. I skipped ahead to post 8 to see wtf a pinion snub shaft was. The parts are garbage, no question to it really.

MOST diffs have WAY more distance between the first two pinion bearings, which means way more leverage and less stress. A 14 bolt without the third bearing is really bad.

IMO, that's one I wouldn't even think twice about putting in the scrap pile.

Welding it is adding the wrong material and without a heat treat, bearings will tear that apart in no time. I wouldn't even chance it in a trail only rig.

If you really wanted to fix it, you could turn down that bearing surface until it can be a single diameter, then make a sleeve out of a bearing to press back on. You'd lose the surface heat treat and the pinion "snub" would be a smaller diameter and more likely to fail, but at least it would be bearing material.

I agree with Chris. I wouldn't think any educated buyer would want it.

Maybe find a bearing with a smaller inner dia and turn the snout down to fit? Again like Chris said you'd lose the heat treating.

I got my new 5.38 R&P through Summit for $180 shipped. As cheap as 14 bolt gears are, I'd just get a new set. There's no way you could get any shop to do any kind of hillbilly repair for cheap enough to make that worth it. You'd be better off to regear to something more commonly found used and get some junkyard gears or something.

Nah, don't worry about it. I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with the rear now. I have 5 of these 14FF's laying around so its not like I'm gonna be missing one, etc. I've thought about rebuilding them again to flip back out so that means buying new parts for them again.

We'll see what happens down the road.

Seriuosly, i'd fix them for myself. Don't throw it away. Let me know what you want for the set.
