Went to the junkyard today looking for a 14 bolt full floater for my crew cab build. Walking down into the yard, I see a Chevy van sitting there. Popped the hood, shows it to be an 80 model, G80 locker, and GX5 4.09s for the axle code. Peeked around to see if it was a full floater, it was, and looked underneath to see if it was a 14ff or a Dana axle. It was a 14ff. Popped the cover off and stamped on the gears were 45/11. They are original to the truck.

I never heard of GX5/4.09 gears in a 14ff, it will work fine for what I need, just thought it to be kinda odd.....

I've seen/had those, junked one not too long ago. But never seen a rear 14 bolt with that gears.

I wouldn't think .01 to .02 of a rotation would hurt anything, pluck the axle and haul ass

Toyota guys run 5.38s and 5.29s all the time when they put a dana 44 up front.

I read its something like a 10% difference can be taken up in the backlash in a transfer case even on a solid surface.

Getting that axle tomorrow.

I'm not worried bout the difference in front/rear ratios, what I'm saying is a 4.09 ratio when 99% of rears are 4.10.

I have a 75 3/4 ton with a 44 up front with 4.09 : a 14ff with 4.10 from the factory. has 45,000 on them with no stopping them.

As stated in the other posts, not concerned about the gear difference. I was curious about the rear axle gears having 4.09s and not the 4.10s like every other 14 bolt has. Must be a van thing....

:haha: this thread brings the funny. that is strange about your 14bolt though. Never heard of it!

My Dana44 has 4.09... is it gonna break my transmission cross member??

Yes it'll tear it right out. Better get a front 12b just in case. It has the anti crossmember tear yoke. Duh

Thanks! I wonder if I could retrofit that anti-tear yoke to the DRW D70 driver's drop axle that I got stock off of my daddy's Gulfstream?

No it will only work off of a Gulfstream donated by a female. But noone under the age of 34-3/4s y/o or over 35.

Not to mention DRW d70s can only take suzuki rockwell yokes which as we all know are cast aluminum and far superior.

I made another funny!

waht i was trying to tell you is that the 14 bolt does not make a 4.09 they only make it in 4.10.. mabey it was lost in translation..LOL

It has 4.09 gears in it. 45/11 number of teeth. I can try to get a pic but not sure how it will come out....
