16" rims with alot of backspacing?

i need alot of BS cuz im running dually axles and want to try running the military XL's for street driving
 
I think the newer chevy HD rims that are pretty common as take offs are like 5.5" BS. They are narrow though 6.5 or 7" wide or something like that. I am running stock chevy rims from an 80's K20 on my K5 with 37x12.5" tires on them and they do great for offroad. They are 6.5" wide and I can air them down alot without having to worry to much about blowing beads.

They make my Maxxis CC's crown pretty bad but they have a tendency to do that even on wider rims. This truck is not street driven though so I just air down to about 9 psi and they squish very well. My only other downfall is I am hitting my hubs more often on rocks since they stick out farther with the higher BS rim.

Eh, the stock backspacing on GM 3/4+ ton trucks has always been around 4.25". I have some 16x6.5" wheels off of a 2007 GMC and they have around 4.5" if my memory is correct.

Only the half tons went to the "deep" offset.
 
So how would 4" of backspacing do anything for him?

muddy, check out summit racing. Here's what they list for 16" wheels with a 8x6.5" pattern:

Notice there's several options over 4.5" of backspacing in there.

You'd want to keep the width around 6-7" (maybe 8") though if they are 11.00R16 Michelins.

thanks man, thats exactly what i was looking for. i didnt think there would be aftermarket support for 4.5"+ BS. the steelies that have 5" BS seen to be what id want, but they are 2 piece construction. ive never dealt with a 2piece rim on a truck before, anything special that needs to be done when using a 2 piece rim?
 
That just means the outer part of the rim isn't the same part as the vertical part your lug studs go through. Yeah, I know, really bad description. On aluminum rims it's all one piece and SOME steel rims are 1 piece as well but most steel aftermarket wheels are in fact two piece.


How much backspacing are you looking for anyways?

well im running DRW hubs on my 60 and im going to be running d70hd with 14b srw hubs on it so that the WMS matches the DRW 60 of ~77". my current tires are on h1's, but if i could find a rim that wont make the tires stick out a ton then i could run military XL's for the street since they last forever and are pretty cheap
 
So....less than 7" but more than 4"?

Might consider running front dually rims all around.
 
Steelies from an 8 lug trailer might work too. They are generally thin and have high BS.

Never thought about trailer wheels...is that legal/safe/cool?:confused:
 
yea i dont want anything sketchy or unsafe. more info on said trailer rims?
 
Cool? Probably not that cool, but it is a DOT approved rim and is rated to support more weight then normal rims probably are.

Our gooseneck trailer at work has 4 8 lug rims and is rated at 14K so that is 3500lbs per rim.

Cool as in...fine to do? I've NEVER heard of people running trailer rims on a vehicle so it just seems...different...like unknown territory different.
 
Quick thought but make sure the center hole is big enough to fit your front hubs. That's definitely not a concern on trailer wheels.
