In my shop. Doing stuff.
I do not usually ask other people's opinions on stuff I am going to buy, but this time, I am on the fence.

I need a newer work truck. Something I can tow with on occasion. Heaviest load ever will be the Jimmy on a trailer. 9500 pounds. I know the 5.7 is not a tow monster, but I don't need to do 80mph anymore.

I do not want a crew cab. The utility bed would be great for work. They said $24k OTD. Tax, license and fees.

It is a workman truck. So no carpet. Bonus in my book.

2017 Ram 3500 4x4 Reg Cab with 8 ft Utility Bed. Truck is equipped with P/W, P/L, Tilt, Cruise, Electric Brake, Blue Tooth, Spray in Liner, and only 88k.

The only problem I see happening is you’ll have that bad boy so loaded up with tools and cool shit, you’ll lose all your towing capacity. I would want a 3500 diesel.
Edit: I just noticed it is a 3500

The hemi is fine for what you want to do with it , honestly it has a lot less headache to deal with versus the diesel with all the after treatment and emissions. Biggest issue we see with them is they like to break exhaust manifold bolts over time and leak . Pretty easy fix.
I say go for it.

The tools in my existing truck weigh 50 pounds total. I just want clean, easy access to them. Now I have to climb on the bed to get to the center of the box.

On the way to BB, it will have the BBQ stuff and door prizes. So, no big deal there.

that's a good looking truck. my dad has a 1969 Ford F250 with the boxes on the side. he used to put a camper in it and we would go camping. those boxes were great to haul an axe and shovel, tools, bottle jack and all kinds of stuff. I wouldn't mind finding one to put my camper in and tow when I go wheeling.

go for it.

Chatted with him. They are a commercial truck outfitter. The box that was on the truck was transferred to the company's new truck. Lease return on this one. The box is from another unit that they kept the truck. Bed was sandblasted and painted in their booth. Center rhino lined. Hasn't been detailed yet.

Meeting him at 9am tomorrow morning. Taking a check with me.

the newer 5.7's are better on fuel than my 2007 5.7 is. I have a 2006 cummins and a 2007 hemi (both mega cabs), while the hemi wont pull the trailers as fast as the cummins and it notices the hills more, we still get there and it handles the loads.

That's what I wanted to hear. I really do not want to pay $10k more for a diesel to be used one trip a year. And I am looking at a different build to drive to wheeling events.

I have put about 400,000 miles on 5.7 Hemi, In 3 different cars and beat the tar out of them. Only issue we had motor wise was cam bearings, which I think was due to the amount of idle time and people that don't understand internal workings of an internal combustion engine, oil pressure, RPM's and the like. Looks like an awesome truck to me. I would like to have it.

and I advise that the word advice is spelled with a "C" but hey they are close together on the keyboard.

Fixed the title for you.

He also said the original bed did not have hitch on it. Doesn't think it ever towed anything.

We switched from ford to chevy on our lighter duty fleet trucks and we use big fords for the medium duty up to the F550 all with gas motors, both those from what the fleet service guys tell me are great. We bailed from Chrysler years ago so not clue on those. Probably hard to go wrong with any of them.. I’d pick which dealer is most willing to work with you.
