1948 panel wheeler. The end of an error.

Collecting parts with no real plan for the end. I just know I'm not cool without an LS swap and tons.
I read that article a couple of months ago when I was first looking at the LT1. I thought it was weird that there was not a lot of aftermarket stuff listed. I then saw the article was a March 2019 release. So much more has been developed since then.

The lack of a power steering pump was the first thing that had me questioning the viability of this platform. But the kits are out there.

They run good. They do use oil from what I've seen and heard from the dealer. Apparently they have pretty skinny rings to cut down on friction. I had a 2015 L83 at work lose a cam. Dealer wanted $6k to replace cam and associated parts. Cam kits are like $1200 online. That one had 65k miles but it might have also had 14k hours of run time too. LOL.
When did they go electric on the power steering? Can you retrofit a pump from an older one? I believe the '15 Silverados we have at work have them still.

In 17 they went electrical PS. There seems to be some discussion on what pumps to put on these. Do I need the vacuum pump on 48 Chevy? Vintage air does not use vacuum for the blend doors, so I do not think so. I am very early in the process on this build. Biggest issue everyone has is the AC compressor location on the bottom right hitting frames. But with the work I am doing for a frame, that will not be an issue.

Collecting parts is getting expensive.

I just saw this wade, but I’ve done a few gen v swaps. My buddy Matt owns Wicked wrench Motorsports and makes harnesses
I can probably answer or get you an answer on anything.

I figured that once I get into this farther, I was going to hit him up. I will go through you first when I contact him. Gives you props for sending me to him. Following him on Istacrap already.

Here’s a pic with an l87 water pump with Matt’s p.s. setup. Gets everything in a nice compact setup.

Oh cool. I talk to him every day so I should be able to help with whatever you need.

I was hoping to not have to source the centered water pump and move everything. The vacuum pump is on the driver side at the bottom. Runs its own belt. I believe the engine you posted is a car engine. truck has different component locations.

The center water pump is off a newer version of what you have. The vacuum pump is only required when the engine is operating in 4cyl mode. That always gets turned off on most tunes. We delete the vacuum pump and block the oil galleys with factory gm plugs from a corvette. You’ll probably have all kinds of room for activities in the panel truck, so you may be able to run it as is. But if you want power steering that’s the best route. All the ICT and Holley pulley kits suck. And they are$$$
