1966 Plymouth Fury build thread.

Great to see the Mopar gettin some love!
That should be a great street/strip manifold.

I think with this manifold, the carb that is coming, and the headers it should make decent power. Mostly at this point I just want it to start, run, drive.

Header
Carb
Fuel system
Radiator
Ignition system

That is my punch list to be able to start it and let it run to temp. Then it'll be on to suspension steering and brakes. Rear springs are cooked, no idea on brakes but I'm assuming they are full on junk. One good thing is the 66 Fury shares leaf springs with the "B" body...so aftermarket support is very good, and no too spendy. Really none of the parts I need are terribly expensive, it's just that I need all of them. It's all good though.

It runs, just really badly. lol

I think what I need to do is pull the engine, and dis-assemble it...then do a meticulous clean and re-assemble. Bores look really good still, still cross hatch in all of them. I think however the rings are all stuck and gunky preventing it from making decent compression.

Other than a gasket set it would be a cheep way to have some fun.

Did you ever run a compression test?

Yeah, but I can't get steady numbers. A cylinder will be 60 psi then later on I'd do another compression check and it would be 90. Then I'd try to run it some and it would change again. I was hoping the more I could get it to run the more things would loosen up.

Having seen the cylinder bores I know this engine was in great health when the car was wrecked. I don't want to end up spinning a bearing or something equally stupid by continuing to try to make it run as is. I have visions in my head of clogged oil passages, rings stuck etc. Better to just tear it down and clean it all properly and go from there I think.

Get it running and dump some ATF down the carb.
Some swear by seafoam and what not but I've used ATF before and it always seemed to work.

ATF, Diesel, and "Deep Creep" penetrant for a week straight was what it took to unsieze it. I'll tear it down, and it won't cost me more than a few gaskets plus my time to put my mind at ease.

I really wanted to wait for a start video to update here...but there are still quite a few steps between now and then.

I did get the Brawler 750 as well as some other parts. I finally knuckled down and modified the passenger header and got the drivers fitted too. Shit work, and I'm happy that is done.20200429_161859.jpg 20200524_154040.jpg Message_1590361326680.jpg 20200602_154940.jpg

Next up was installing a new billet electronic distributor and trying to route the wires as best as possible. I also re-configured the dipstick to work with the header. Last in this area was a new mini starter. Cool thing is the starter from a 5.9 magnum pick-up is a direct fit, half the size and more balls.Message_1591139275614.jpg 20200615_191638.jpg

I have a " pie tin" I wanted to use. I found another 14" air cleaner top that worked with the pie tin. Pretty happy
