1968 K10 rebuild and back on the road.

What are you doing to it?

I forgot about that sweet little gem, have you been driving it?

Slowly things are going back together. I ended up rebuilding the engine, .40” over, head redone and all but it took the shop 4 months on the head. This weekend I got the engine in and the transmission bolted up. I have one crossmember bolt fighting me right now. And the fuel pump is upside down, I figured that out when I was searching facebook for a valve cover and dipstick tube.

Those R/W 221 T-cases are damn heavy with the extra counter gears/shafts assemblies and larger case to house it all just adding weight.
Using the cherry-picker through the trans tunnel method was the way to go. Way back in days gone by I had to R&R a few 465/221 setups using a telescopic trans jack and it still sucked due to how damn heavy that combo is.

I didn’t realize that the six cylinders had oil pressure like a Pontiac, the fender will never rust again. I have a buddy coming over to help put the hood on, then it will go on a long test drive. I also need an older style thermostat lower housing so I can hook up the temperature gauge. IMG_1087.jpegIMG_1086.jpeg

Did that truck come with power steering or did y’all add it over the years?
Just curious about different style mounting brackets for in-lines through out the years - I’ve collected a few different types from the 70’s applications and all position the pump in a different spot.

it was added on at some point, its an aftermarket kit and I’ve seen them online before but I don’t know who makes it. Bent steel brackets and its kind of janky but it works.

I was thinking that the brackets looked different from the other OEM ones that I‘ve come across.
If they work then let it roll - power steering sure beats strong arming it.

I got the hood on and went for a test drive, and the carb isn't coming into the secondary circuit or its not getting enough fuel. I have a wix clear fuel filter on there an it barely has fuel in it so I'll pull the sending unit and see if the sock is plugged.

The fuel sending unit and gas tank are new so that's not the issue. When I put the rebuild kit in the carb I didn't put the little spring hanger on the needle since the old one didn't have it. I'll pull it apart tomorrow and install that, and see if there is a change, and if there isn't I'd say the fuel pump is weak.

Slightly confused, there is no secondary, are you referring to the power circuit?
