I the CKS spec section the 1969 K5 shows weight a little over 2900 pounds while the 1970-72 show 3600 pounds. Is the 1969 really 600 pounds lighter than the 1970-72? If so, what are the differences?

I am shopping for a 69-72 and will be repowering with a 5.3/4L60E combo and the weight difference would help performance and mileage.

Thanks for your comments.

I wouldn't believe EITHER of those numbers.

Most passenger cars weigh more than 2900Lbs, a K5 is going to weigh substantially more.

My guess is that those numbers are based on an "unoptioned" K5. Remember, the early Blazers didn't come with a hardtop, or passenger seat (or rear seat) or much of anything. It was a true utility truck, so you only bought what you needed.

I have a factory option list from 1972 that shows all of the specs, weights and MSRP costs for every item you could order on a K5.

The lightest K5 in that book was a 2WD one with a 6-cylinder engine, and even that one tipped the scales at 3511 Lbs....

:usaflag:

All of the fully dressed small block first gens I've scaled have come in at 4200-4600 lbs. Which is about 400 lbs heavier than a comparible short bed pickup.

i have torn down a 69 and 72 and the only real differnce i seen was the disk front brakes on the 72.

Any weight differences between the years won't change the mileage your going to get with a 69 vs. 72, your pushing a brick through the air...bottom line.

Gearing, overdrive and FI are your best friends in that area.
