1969 Buick Wildcat Custom build. Sold it.

Walked into the shop this morning to the distinct smell of transmission fluid. Pan was still leaking??????????????????? I clean the perimeter of the lip and realize that the gasket is not there. I should have looked harder. Picked one up and proceeded to drop the pan. Something is moving in the pan as I tilt it down to drain it.

Found the missing pan bolts. And what is this other crud?DSC_0023.JPG

Ran it a little longer after draining the tank and flushing the lines. Nothing nasty except old gas came out. Fires right up and idles rough. But fires after one revolution dead cold.

A new leak at the front of the engine started. Bad. Was running into the pan that already had crap in it. Was black and thick. Crap. Is that a cracked block from freezing? Should be coolant then. But it is oil. Nasty oil. Oil in the engine is new. Coming from behind the fuel pump on the left side of the engine. It is amazing how different these engines are from the chevy stuff. Could not get the fuel pump mlm off without pulling the power steering pump. So off it came.

Now I can see right into that area. Hooked the fuel lines back up and started it. Fuel pump is leaking out of the vent port. Looked like oil because the block in that area is a mess and covered in...............

Wait for it..................

Spider webs. That's why it looked so thick. New pump will be here at 5pm.

I shudder at the thought of where all those spiders have bedded down and may be hiding. Down here we uncover a black widow or brown recluse almost weekly, lots more in the warmer months. I would rather face a snarling wolf head on than be trapped under a car, surprised by a creepy spider with bad intent.

Fuel pump went in today. Made an engine dip stick tube from brake line. Had to narrow the dip stick a bit. Drained 8 quarts of oil out of a 4 quart pan. ??????? Only had an hour to work on it today.

New front crank seal and the rear brake soft line are supposed to be here tomorrow. Might be drive day.

Dont know. I did not taste it to see.

Weird thing is, the oil looked clean before I ran it. Then black when I drained it. The dirty crap must have settled out after all those years. Until I fired it up.

Well I'm happy to see the updates Wade, hope the first drive is soon and without surprises....

Yes that happens when the oil sits a long time and some of it would also be some moisture

Fixed all but one leak. That seal has been ordered. Still waiting on the brake line.

Fired it up after fuel pump replacement. Still leaking gas. Had to put 2 wrenches on the hard line to get it tight enough to stop leaking. But it stopped. The smell of the dust and spider webs burning off is worse than the exhaust. Had the barn wide open while it ran. Got up to running temp with no issues. all cylinders are firing.

Video is kind of crappy.

I did get the rear end to spin after this. 1.5 gallons of trans fluid. Still needs more. Was completely empty, obviously.

The bad front crank seal leak seems to have fixed it's self.??? Maybe the correct amount of oil helped.
While watching the video, I noticed that the brake lights do not work and the front marker lights and dash turn indicator lights are on with the brake pedal. Now on the the electrical gremlins and cleaning it out.

Here are some things from the back seat.

I cant get over how nice that car is, what a great score. The Timing cover seal is that old rope type, it may have needed a little oil, heat and friction to start doing it's job again.
