Everyone wants to look but never fork over the cashI know how you feel. You say you would drive it anywhere, would you honestly feel comfortable driving from KS to NY in that ol girl? Also is it me or is the drivers side dented on the bed and door? How bad is the rust on the cab?
Man personally I would drive it from KS to NY but it is one of those deals where I wouldn't recommend most people do that. Does that make sense?
I personally have flown to the west coast and driven home vehicles that have had no business driving any distance at all let alone half way across the country.
My thoughts were always that if I felt a vehicle could drive a few hours no problem then why not 12, or 24 or whatever. It would be a loud, bumpy expensive trip with gas and all but I think it would do it.
With that being said, anything can (and in my case, usually does
) happen but with an older truck like that it's not like you can't pull into a parts store and fix about anything on it. But it is mechanically sound FWIW.Rust on the cab is pretty bad. It will never be a "show" style pick up with the cab that is on it. My thoughts were to drive it and look for an AC cab from some old 2WD long bed for next to nothing and swap it as time permitted. Floors have had some metal riveted in and there is rust around the windshield. It's not like you would get wet driving it or anything but I am going to be totally honest with you. Cab needs replaced if you want to make it "nice". We (me and my son) were going to drive it this winter and when we found a cab tackle that when we could.
Yep, some dents in the bed and door. Nothing that can't be fixed but they are there.
Send me your email and I will send you pics of the rust.
Thanks, Jeff
