I found a rust free 1970 Blazer 4x4 which was ordered with a soft top not a hard top 307 cid,3spd on the tree.Is this rare as it seems most I see came with a hard top. Thanks Tom

The hard tops were nominally an option, i.e. the base model Blazers came with a driver's seat only, no top, and for 73-75, a pickup-style tailgate with no window.

However, the vast majority of Blazers came with both front and rear seats, the hardtop and in later years, the tailgate with glass.

The soft tops were a dealer accessory, and yeah, are fairly rare. Of more concern will be the condition, as you can't get parts for them, so any repair would be custom at a boat shop or the like.

Yes, there's one for the '69-72 trucks, read it ;)

And "rust-free" and "Blazer" cannot be used in the same sentence. Dig deeper under the carpet, look at the rocker boxes under the seats, the wheel wells, etc etc...

I looked for rust and other than some surface rust its pretty clean. The top is white and needs a good cleaning but the only problem is the snaps at the tailgate. The blazer has had 1 repaint and has 42K miles and sitting in a garage at a lake house and was not driven in the winter. The guy that owns it is in his 60's and it was his Dad's who bought it in the early 70's so his Dad was the second owner. Its not mint and runs and drives but not all banged up.Drivers seat is ripped, little things like that.I can get it for 5K.Think its worth it?I just wasn't sure if original soft top versions were something special. Thanks for the info. Tom

Something is worth what someone will pay for it. That's more than I'd throw at it, but first gens tend to be costlier, and in the end, it's whether you're happy.

Without seeing pix it's hard to judge, but my experience with 70's Chebbies is that there IS rust down there, you just aren't looking hard enough.

Some pictures of said truck would be awesome. 5K is not bad for even a kinda rusty, but generaly solid and running 1st gen.

From the sounds of it, I would say it is for sure worth 5k, But without pictures its hard to say.

i bought mine for 2200 with basically nothing in it.rust wasnt too bad as it was a cali truck, but it really started to rust when i moved to pa and daily drove it for 3 years.cancer showed up quick and i parked it until i could repair it.5 g aint a bad price if it it really is solid and there is good paint and is mechanically sound.you being the 3rd owner really helps the price along as well.50,000 miles is awesome for a truck that is 40 years old.pics will be nice when you can get some and up to 15 posts.but from what you are saying the stats are,it sounds pretty good.1st gen blazers will always get a lil more just because they are getting more scarce every year.there are only a couple around me at the moment.one is thrashed and the other is fully restored and mine lies somewhere in the middle.

Thanks for the reply's.This blazer sat all winters as it was at a lake house that was only used for vacations in the summer. It's not really what I want but seems like a good deal.Thinking about it.

My blazer that is soon to be scrap metal has no rust, I cut apart a 73 that was rather clean. They are out there to be found.

Not what you want? What is it you are looking for then?

I was looking for a Blazer with auto and disk brakes but found this one and was just wondering if having a soft top when ordered from the factory was special like many of the old muscle cars which are worth a ton more that way.I guess overall I was trying to find out if there was some bucks to be made. Thanks

Oh yeah, I forgot that '69-70 had drums up front, didn't they?

Should be easy enough to swap in discs, though you might need new knuckles.

IMO you're not going to get much more, if any, for that truck that came with the original soft top vs any of the other 1st gens.

From what I've seen, the only thing that raises the price is the rust, or lack there of. I don't think that my 69 is worth more than a 72, even though there were 39,331 more of the 72's made. Same thing goes with a CST vs. the utility. Maybe the CST would be worth more if it still had the extra seat/seats and nice panels, but thats about it.

Generally I see guys get more excited about a rust free tub and a non-cracked frame over low production numbers or options at the time of production. From there, everyone makes there own version or vision in what they want there 1st gen to be.

Just my .02 cents on it. Although everything is always worth what somebody is willing to pay for it. :)

yeah for the price nothing beats a rust free tub on our first gensthere are enough aftermarket companies around that you can get all the accessories and add ons you want.it amy not have came cst,but it can be made to be one.just like the gto judge knockoffs.only the real good collectors can tell the difference.just like the chalet guys on here.they pretty much know the ins and out of most of them they ever built.get it and have fun.

True...Rust, or lack of Rust is what brings the $$$.

If you are in the market for a 1st Gen, DO NOT let a rust free truck pass simply because of small things like brakes. Drum to Disk swaps are not all that complicated.

i'll take it..

if "it's not what you want" and you decide not to buy and it's what you say, pm me with owner contact info and i'll buy.
thnx, g
