1970 C10 Shortbed conversion LSX

This truck is just so cool, what a a sweet driver. Please message me if you ever plan on selling this truck, even if it's 5 years from now :deal:

Also that fly wheel has an awful lot of balancing holes, never seen so many :eek1:

This weekends project was LS coil relocation and SBC valve covers.
ITC billet makes adapters for this to be done
For the coil relocation I used 1/4 threaded rod with some nuts
Some random copper piping that I found at local hardware store for spacers.
L brackets
LT1 Camaro plug wires

Was able to re-drill the brackets so that they bolted directly to the rear two bolt holes on the back of each head
SBC Script valve covers on the LS. These covers leave nothing for crank case ventilation so I added a filter. Not sure this will be enough. I may screw in a 90* nipple and hook the TB vaccum line back up? Any thoughts?

Would love to find or buy a nicer set of similar valve covers, these are old dented and beat up

DUDE! that is slick! I've never seen that done before.

Where did you put the coils? I can't tell from the pics.

That's the point! They are hiding....bolted to the back of the heads

I'm surprised there was room for them back there. Did you move the motor forward a bunch? I don't think there would be room in mine.

Surprisingly yea I had plenty of room. I running a factory 4 speed, dingo sliders in the front slots on the frame. I looked at a 4x4 k5 with a LS yeastsrday and I was amazed at how close the motor was to firewall

oh yeah, I forgot this was 2wd. I've heard that makes a difference in engine position. Since I used an aftermarket crossmember I guess I could have put it as far forward as I wanted thinking about it. There is plenty of room in front and I went with electric fans, so fan position isn't an issue.

Anyway, I really like how that turned out. If I do another swap I'll be keeping this in mind.

This truck has been down for a few weeks. Pinion bearing in the 12 bolt ate itself. Have a complete rebuild kit. Hopefully get it back on the road this weekend.

I sure miss driving it :burnout:

Personally I would try and fit a PCV, breathers tend towards vomiting oil everywhere. Those valve covers look bitchin'. I think there is a certain character added by the less than pristine examples you are using, but if you decide on getting nice ones feel free to mail me those ones.

Yes I have to do something different the one breather is not enough. It does like to vomit oil. Any ideas one creating a PCV with these covers?

I think you are on the right track with your current breather. Put a PCV in that grommet and plumb it in as the factory did on the LS engines. Maybe cut the factory breather tube from the stock LS valve cover and braze or TIG it into your first valve cover on the passenger side and also plumb it in the stock LS manner.

Also: a small baffle beneath both the PCV and breather of course.

Yeah, the baffle is a must. Also, I run a catch can on my 5.3. That stock set up sucks oil like a 400,000 mile wannabe rice rocket.

Ordered a couple baffled grommets for the breathers hopefully that helps. Also found a baffled AN fitting may run that up to the tb vacuum like the LS valve covers did. Just hoping that won't suck oil into the intake?

Also spent the day replacing all the bearings in the rear axle. Got it out back together and took it for a quick spin. Everything seemed nice and tight and working as it should again.
