1970 Chevelle Malibu "400" Clone

Cars and coffee? You aren't that old...coffee sucks.... I want to see it at the track where it can stretch its legs! :waytogo:

You need to get in on the drag racing thread with one of your rides at least, I know you know how to do that even if you claim to not operate a camera.

WHAT? I drink coffee till noon just to stay alive! I will get it fine tuned then dynoed then maybe to the track, need a new helmet. Probably going to sell the camaro if I ever get anyone intrested.

Ha, glad I got you riled.... ;)

Tried drinking coffee for several months a few years ago, two cups got me feeling jitterish with a nasty mouth feeling most mornings. Had to quit, I'm a quitter when it comes to coffee.

Tea is where it's at, no jittery feeling and no nasty mouth, other than my language sometimes.

Look forward to seeing that awesome machine at the track someday with you banging gears! :saweet:

Forget the dyno, just tune it at the track, it's what matters...

I drink tea too but coffee is free. Like an old man told me once, we don't drink it for the taste or temperature, we drink it for the effects. (insert your drink of choice)
If I drink more than say 4-5 20oz cups I can't hold a screw driver in a screw. If I have none I usually am grouchy, plus it makes my guts work.

I don't know if I have hardly had the 4 barrel open yet. Just trying to get the low speed happy. It makes lots of torque and even just using 20-30% of the throttle.

Something interesting to share related to my above comment.

When I was dyno testing a fresh stroker LS2, testing several volcano inserts, carbs, EFI, etc, we made about 30 pulls, and it would repeat within 1 hp every time we didn't change anything, several times in a row with the final tune.

Then we sprayed it with a small 100 shot of nitrous (actually gained over 150 HP on pump gas).

After we sprayed it and disarmed the nitrous, it picked up 5 hp on motor, with zero other changes. I couldn't believe it.

We ran it two more times, same exact numbers. So even after 30 WOT pulls, it still hadn't quite broken all the way in yet, but it did a little more with 2 pulls on the giggle juice. I'll never forget that.

Cylinder pressure->ring pressure sure helps to seat rings. I remember road kill or someone flogging a wore out engine on nitrous and significantly reducing the blowby.

Exactly, so why haven't you gone above 30% throttle? :coolblue:

How far off you think you are? Have you ever burnt a piston on an NA car driving it on the street?

I don't think I've ever built an engine I didn't punch it by the 2nd drive, making sure everything looks alright after the first drive. That's been a lot of times.

It seems as though you are as patient with the throttle as you are with the carb blueprinting.

You can probably only tromp it for a couple seconds on the road anyway, aren't going to hurt any pistons in that short of time with an NA motor if its built right, which yours appears to be. You can't stay it in like you can at the track.

I raced a truck off the stop light the other day, 3/8-1/2 throttle was all spinning and smoke. Guy did yell it was bad ass Tires are 15 years old. It still has a little rattle when rolling farther into it . I have driven it hardish but want to sneak up on it. my machinist just melted a cast piston on a long pull with a missing vac plug from a back fire shut off. Maybe gun shy.

Hey burnouts are illegal! :pimp1:

Sounds like fun.

What is this "rattle" you speak of? Drivetrain or engine?

Changed to a 78 jet, 13.8-14 at cruising. Next step is 76s. Also changed the power valve to a 6.5. Dipping into the throttle 30-40% it gets pretty lean (16-17). I need to unhook the secondaries to be sure I am still on the primaries. Then once I have them lined out, hook the secondaries back up.

So to update
