We just picked up a project car for my 14 year old son. My oldest (17 now) isn't into wrenching other than helping me if I ask. I was surprised one day when my youngest son said "dad, we should get a project car for me to drive". After some searching, he really liked a 69 Olds Cutlass we found, but never could get the seller respond. This 72 Buick Skylark is very similar so he liked it as well and we were able to get it bought.

It is a 4 door, but 2 doors aren't in our budget. My son doesn't really care. He doesn't really want to hot rod it or anything. He told me he can't really explain it, he just likes these old cars.

Thought the little cranks for the vent window in the door was interesting.

These little body flares in front the fenders is interesting. First time I saw them, I thought it was dented.

The cheesy exhaust from a previous owner made loading the car on the trailer difficult. None of it appears to be welded, so it pulled apart. Then it was just hanging by a single hanger. Before I unloaded it, I just cut the exhaust off.

First project is a 2 Door conversion?
Bwahaha!

I came to post “Quadra slam hooptie !”
I liked how Roadkill Garage called their 4-door Chevelle a crew cab.

But this is just a high school kid's car. Gotta save stuff like that for when he's 40 and the car's been sitting in the yard at the top for 20 years and he decides it's time to restore his high school car.

So what does @MrsK5 think of him have a car with a back seat?
She was just glad we finally bought something before it sold.

We're going to weld the rear doors shut and put up a divider screen like a cop car so he has no back seat access.

Actually he was talking about taking the back seat out so he could put a big sound system in it.

So what is under the hood that’s fire breathing through that awesome exhaust system?

A 2 door conversion would look odd on that car. Roof line is completely different than the two door version. The tri-five is a pretty easy conversion, same wheelbase, same roof line etc etc.

You sheesh, it will be entertaining to see him try...
Actually seen it done on a 70 velle. Of course to do it right you have to reskin alot of things. But it's not unattainable....

why is there plasti gauge on the front seat ? has the motor been a part recently? If so, the noise from the trans maybe the front pump. If the torque converter wasn't seated correctly it will break the pump gear ears.

neat.. One of my hotrod buds back in high school had a 2 dr 71 iirc... midnight blue.. Don't know what mufflers it had but it sounded like an Electrolux vacuum cleaner! :haha:

but it was neat, cuz it was the only one around...

mechanically remove a good bit of the rust with a DA or grinder, and give it a quickie spot blast if ya can.. throw a bit of rattlecan primer on it till ya get to bodywork mode... at least you'll have stopped it's progress...

I saw one of these that was pretty fast, even though it had stupid tall rear end gears. I was quite fun!

@500$k5 had it! And it didn't look great, what a sleeper!
