1972 GMC K25 daily driver build(fan shroud question)

Just thinking out loud about the 400. I measured a cylinder and piston at lunch and it needs to go .020 over. Didn’t measure the crank or rods yet.

Also the boss for clutch linkage, is it as simple as drilling and tapping the boss on the block?

I planned on doing a clutch when the motor was out regardless but with the 400 being externally balanced id for sure need a new flywheel as well.

The clutch linkage bolts to the bell housing no? Flywheel you could get balanced, I`ve had one done for a 454 years ago. Do you have the harmonic balancer for the 400?

I just looked again and the clutch linkage is pivoting off the frame and block, the 400 block does have the same boss I just have to drill and tap it.

I also found a flywheel on Facebook for 25 bucks so no big deal there. I don’t have a balancer but that’s easy enough to get new anyway.

If the boss is there and not drilled, yes it's that simple. Most 2pc seal blocks should have it and be drilled though. Only thing you'll have to watch out if you drill it is going too deep.

Edit: If you happen to need a hand or parts, I may be able to help out. You're somewhat local.

The motor I’m using is a ‘72 400, it has the boss but is not drilled. Shouldn’t be a big deal except for the depth like you said.

I ordered a new clutch yesterday from the local parts store and I’m going to get my flywheel tomorrow.

The only thing I haven’t decided on yet is a camshaft. Not sure what specs to look for that make a good torque curve for towing. Also kind of want to go roller but I’m not sure if it’s worth the money
