1973-75 rear side panels dried up!

Thank you rampage,
Made the call and spoke with Bill. He said he hasn’t had a full size blazer body in a good long while. He commented that ever since they came out with “cash for clunkers”
Those have dried up....lol...my words exactly. Nice to talk with him. He said he could help me out with a fleet side bed side if all else fails...
All I can say is treat your rear blazer body panels with lots of love. Your going to have a rough go at replacing her!
Thanks much for the lead.
Hunt continues......

Well that sucks! :frown

This will also solve the pic conundrum. And really with the depth your undertaking in resto I think you belong here! Guys like me will learn a lot from your build threads in the future.
tenderfoot,
Thank you, I’ll end up going for it for sure. These forums are a huge wealth of information for all. What a great benefit. I remember what seems like not long ago...lol...I had to buy Haynes manuals to work on stuff. Now a few clicks and all is at our finger tips... that’s cool and don’t even really realize it anymore.

To post pics you need to host the pic on a web hosting site like photobucket. Then copy the URL of its location, click on the image button (to the right of the smiley face) and paste the URL in the pop up box. Done. :waytogo:
Thanks for this rampage, I’ll start putting something together. Likely start something in a week or so. Have good one!

I have to disagree with Photobucket as you will see why if you look at my thread...thousands of photos and Photobucket extorted the links...I ended up moving those pics to the forum here, and that's where they will stay. If you want to be assured that the photos will stay with the thread, upload them here. Threads without photos are worthless and I will never be extorted again by someone like photobucket.

I will look and see if I can locate one for you. I am curious now, because these were available 5 years ago...I will see if I can locate one. I have the original one off my 1974 Blazer but I am not sure I want to part with it and the shipping would be crazy...and if they truly are non-existent that would make me want to hold onto it that much more...for a workable spare.

Well understood Chief. Thanks for the warning. I haven't used photobucket in a long while so I don't have any current experiences. I used it and posted quite a bit on my '57 GMC with Custom Classic Trucks Forum many years ago. I believe that forum and all expired as the magazine kinda fell out of popularity and the group joined super chevy or something as I limitedly recall.
Interesting that you where able to "move" the pictures out of photobucket. This raises curiosity in that now I think I'll log into photobucket and see If I can migrate the old photos out. Not for here but just to have as I'm not sure I still have them loaded on any other personal devices.
Good stuff.....Thank you!

Knowing what I have come to know now and if I where you I'd be hanging on to that panel to dude. I really appreciate any help. If you score please let me know ASAP. I will work something out. Looks more like I'll be using that truck panel and doing a lot of dolly and hammer work. I figure by the time I finish up replacing the rusted parts, fabing up the square tube torsions, having tub blasted and epoxied, getting other panels stripped and primmered, it'll be fall season. This is a good bit of time to hold out. I'll be calling around again then to see if anything is back in stock. Hopefully by mid summer as I was told they'll have something. If not we'll be modifying the truck panel. Thanks again Chief!

I have checked every place I know and they are all back ordered. I do believe that they will have them eventually. There is one place I haven't looked and it's an old catalog and I have to find it, it was a really small outfit with a crappy printed catalog...typed on a typewriter...but if I can find it..who knows?

There are a lot of old interesting threads here rendered broken because of Photobucket.
It seems hard to believe about the body panels. I'd keep my eyes open for people parting out blazers. There are classifieds here too.

Fingers crossed that they get shipped back in stock soon. I wonder if it has to do with this little trade war we have going on with China... ???

I'm thinking so. It's that or a GM licensing expiration that needs renewed. It would be interesting to see if same pertains to other model trucks and cars. If so then you know it's the trade embargo's.

Probably due to demand, not much.
There was a set of Nos panels sold not to long ago on eBay, around 1000 bucks I believe.

Have you tried motor city k5? I bought both quarters for my 73 last fall. I got em cheaper from LMC but I talked to Motor City before I did and they either had them or were confident they could source them. Maybe supply has dried up for everyone since then but it didnt seem to be a problem then.

Motor City K5 shows both rear panels as NOT AVAILABLE.

If anybody will get them again LMC will eventually...and most places say "backordered"...so I assume they are waiting on a retool and run of them. I hope that's the case...but they also made the 73-75 grill back in 2013 and no longer do. I think if somebody called LMC and talked to them, they would know the real story.

aceroth, thanks for the input. I'll call them this week and get back here. Been busy and hadn't had an opportunity to pursue this.

Chief, when I initially inquired for both but ultimately could only get the RH panel from LMC I did speak to the salesperson in some depth and asked if they where getting back in stock. He was reluctant to say exactly say yes as if they had a shipment date or he knew something for sure. He said only to check back periodically and he couldn't say anything more for sure. I think I'll call this week and see if I can speak to a supervisor but back then I just got off the phone and started calling around.
I received the RH panel today. The box was huge enough to ship my living room sofa in and was tore up like the UPS drug it from LMC to my house. Probabbly the last RH panel they had or at the bottom of the stock now. Inside the huge box was lots of honeycomb webbed cardboard with another box enclosing the panel. Amazingly the panel was in relatively decent shape. It has a few small dings but acceptable. I wasn't expecting the inner bed panel as well as the vertical end tailgate post and support near the B post was included. Not sure yet if I'm going with my decent existing inners as there in good shape but the aftermarket panel is definitely a noticeable thinner metal. It's also stamped differently in comparison to the outer wheel tub extension and inner panel overall pattern. Real discouraging. No fault of LMC it's just cheaper inferior import product. Waiting on resource to see about getting decent used panels as well and just keep the aftermarket as a future last resort panel. I can definitely see if the first tree branch deflects at the bottom edge of this aftermarket panel it will fold like tin foil over a lunch sandwich. If I use this I'll definitely form and weld a 3/8' rod around the bottom perimeter. I can then make up some stand off rods back up to the inner fender tubs also to attach and reinforce everything. If used panels aren't reachable for me (economically or logistically) I can see stripping the inferior inners of the aftermarket panel and installing on the OEM inners. This way I can strip all really well while apart and epoxy prime. I think I'll also add some sort of bed liner material and then put back together. The liner will add panel density, decades of rust prevention and last well past my life time.
The square tube torsion supports are coming along great. Should have this fully assembled and welded up by end of this weekend. I have pics but getting farther along before I start a build thread. I'd like to get to the paint process before I start posting. Did that with the '57 and the build ended up about same as the ending posts.

I remember reading a build thread a while back. Guy integrated tubing, maybe 1 1/2" or 1 3/4", into his wheel wells and panel edge lines. Wouldn't even know they're there if you didn't pay attention. Came out real slick. I thought it was a great idea. Actually I think it was his wife's giant Dodge truck? He had the burb he bobtailed and made a topper for? Am I thinking the right build? Anyone?

I got mine from LMC and they did not exactly fit my 1974. I had to move some of the inner braces..

Yes it was his wife's Dodge Power Wagon. I forgot his name though. He's from Canada I believe
