You can pick up cheapie chrome ones that work good enough from Autozone ect. You wouldnt need them if the valve covers are real nice thick aluminum, that shouldnt warp.

Those Edelbrocks are actually pretty heavy. A spreader would be mostly a waste on them.

Ahhhh, the benefits of paying attention. Martin is right, those are good enough without them. I would just put them on the other way so the lettering can be read from the fenders, that drives me nuts. :haha:

Believe me, it drives me nuts as well. Have a hydroboost sitting in the garage that I want to swap in soon - once that's done I'll flip the passenger side valve cover around and run the PCV to the back of the carb.

Absolutely the first thing I noticed when I bought the truck lol.

I'm about to undertake the same thing. If you wouldn't mind can you take some pictures of the hose routing for me. I found dozens of trucks with the hydroboost but all the hoses are cut and I'm going to do that and rear disks at the same time. Appreciate it much.

Definitely. I'm a few weeks away still but in the same boat - been looking for a good install to follow but have yet to find one.

Yea, I found one in particular that hasnt been butchered to bad yet, so I cut the hood release cable and closed the hood hoping that will prevent anymore thievery. People here are ridicules when they are taking parts off, it seems when they take the air filter off they bring a sledgehammer and a torch, and hack and wack everything else out of the way.

Made some progress in the past month without updating!

Had some trouble with the engine stumbling under heavy brake use that I discussed in this thread:

Took the advice you guys have and swapped in a new MC / vacuum boost over the weekend.

While I was at it, gave a full system flush and bleed with my buddy's help.

Braking has improved a decent amount, but I still don't feel like it's where I want it to be. Ordered ORD's SS flex lines today, hope I can get them by the weekend and do another round on the brakes.

My truck has a D44 front. Any caliper / rotor combos that I can bolt on for increased stopping power?

Gave hit the wheels and windshield with 0000 steel wool during cleanup. They SHINE now.

Cleaning up vaccuum lines to where I can flip the passenger side valve cover with PCV the right way around. Much to my surprise:

PO installed roller rockers! Pleasant surprise.

No pictures but checked the timing this weekend as it's been dieseling like crazy upon shutdown.

Whoever set it last had initial timing at 38*!! While the cam is very lope-y, that still seems excessive. Turned it back down to 16* initial timing, runs smooth as glass, no more raw gasoline smell, no dieseling on shutdown.

Foo, that's a mess! IIRC, stock timing should be more like 8-10* base, but that's also dependent on the mechanical and vacuum advance. I wonder if a PO read that *total* advance should be <40* and did that as base? :doah:

Surprised it didn't ping like Red October with that much timing.

Most stock car engines lock out mechanical and vacuum advance.

I'm thinking you mean the motors in stock car racing, maybe 'cuz they're run mostly @ WOT? (I read it as the motors that come stock in cars, vs. trucks :doah: )

When I recurved my trucks, I think I ended up with maybe 36* total on the small block (stock) and a bit more on the BBC (built), base + mechanical (and at idle, the vacuum.)

Tinkered with the carb, took it on the highway, took it for a wash. Got the 37's, still waiting on the 16.5's to mount them up!

Finally picked the tires off the production floor at work - 37" of MT/R goodness x5.

Mocked up, waiting on my 16.5's to come through so I can mount them and lift / trim accordingly!!!
Super pumped.
