1973 K10 : Chloe

1973 K10 offroad build
Did that clutch have a little bit of wobble in it?
No, it’s rock solid, brand new. I bought it separately as the one that came with the compressor had 4 ribs, I needed 6.
The original ac bracket was a Kodiak truck bracket. I cut it up, and mounted it on the right side of the engine, instead of the left side for which it was intended.

I got my AC hoses cut to length and the correct fitting to adapt the new AC components with the old truck components
Plus a new tool. A seal installation tool for the Dana 30/44/60 series front axle seal installation tool.
And, a new Sidewinder shifter for the TH400
And installed the lower “Liquid line” into the AC system too

Out with the old, in with the new.

I also removed all the old carburetor style fuel lines. I used a die-grinder and nipped off all the ends so I could save the fittings. Cuz, you never know when you might need one.

I got all the new stainless steel brake lines in the truck. Any fitting that had a hole to start the threads got started. All I need to do now is secure the lines to the frame. I’m going to get a bunch of those Aircraft style clamps with the rubber that will hold the lines. Not sure what they’re called.

In my experience the rubber degrades rather quickly and leaves the chat and you with rattling lines.

I got 5.38 ring gear and the mini spool bolted into the carrier.
Red loctite and 120ft-lbs sheesh what a PITA! Tomorrow lead mechanic at work is going to let me use the big press at work to get the pinion bearing installed. The pinion and bearing install tool are physically too large to fit into my little 6 ton shop press.

OK, mechanically assembled, ready to reinstall in the housing.
Which oil hole goes up the round one or the bigger rectangle shaped hole. I can’t remember…I’ve slept since I took it apart

Cleaned up empty housing then installed the pinion assembly. Then installed the ring gear assembly.
.008” backlash first time
Got my pattern on the second attempt.
Now I need to go on the prowl for the guardsman and 3/8” armored cover from DIY4X. It’s lost in the garage. I just have to go unbury it.

I used both of these videos as learning aids. I have been a professional mechanic for a long time, but, had very limited experience with differential work. I understood the theory and concept, but, had only done >10 differentials in my entire mechanical career. Now it’s just a hobby to keep these idle hands from doing anymore illegal shit. I’m glad to see I still got it. YouTube just makes sure you don’t forget anything.

This first video is Uinta Garage a couple of those guys are still active on CK5

This second video spelled out a few things that Eric kind of glossed over.
