1973 K5 - My any purpose... any road build. (NEW PICS UPDATE 6-6-13 POST#92)

I still need to adjust my shifter, allthough 4x4 is working fine now.

A little update. I decided to go the Mojave heater route. It will be here tomorrow and I will install it this weekend and let you all know how that goes.

In the interest of beiang able to drive the truck this winter I though I should probably get that done. I'm driving it to OKC next week and don't want to get stuck with no defog in some freak 40 degree weather.

Whoa easy there (shhhh they're listening) haha.

Just kidding, Living in Texas is great, I do love it here. But I love Oklahoma too. Thanks for the kind words.

I hope to have much more progress soon. Just a little update for everyone. The result of my trip to Oklahoma for October 1st was what should have been a 3 hour drive taking about 7 hours.
The truck's ignition system decided it did not want to live anymore. By the end of the drive it would only go about 500 yards before backfiring and dying. It was a nerve racking drive to say the least.

That was on Thursday. Friday I went to Pull-a-Part and scored a factory pigtail for the battery terminal on the distributor cap. I also want to VatoZone and get all new parts for the distributor.

After putting all that stuff in, re-soldering the wiring that the PO botched (which had no solder, just loose connectors, I think it was shorting out which couldn’t have helped the dying ignition module) and putting an inline fuse on the damn electric choke (which was wired directly into the distributor power with no fuse) and timing it by ear because the stupid chrome balancer cover just reflected the light so bad you couldn’t tell what the hell was going on.... the truck made it back on Sunday without a hitch and is no longer stuttering or detonating.

All said I'm glad this all happened when it did as we were so close to My grandparents house instead of out in the Ozarks somewhere or whatever cause that would’ve really sucked.

Lesson learned and new parts for my list of spare parts to carry on the trail.

Actually no.

I bought the thing, and then sourced all the parts I need for factory heat and air, including all the ducts and vents.... for free.

So the Summit Mojave I bought may come up for sale here soon.

Just ran across this thread. Nice build! Give me a shout when you're in the OKC area again. We can compare '73s. :)

Nice K5, just take care of it, it's way to nice to mess up. :D

Thanks guys.

Just for an update my transfer case and transmission ate it in February on the way back from Ray Roberts. Transmission locked up and sent my drive shaft flying down I35. Truck is sitting in from of my house waiting for me to get it to Phoenix Transmissions.

I need a transfer case and drive shafts from pretty much any year. 203, 205, 248 whatever if you have some let me know what you will take for them. Must have the shafts too though.

If he doesn't I got a buddy that might or can fix your stuff.

Thanks man I appreciate that.

At this point its not the work, I can do that. It is mostly time although the parts side has given me a snag.

Damn nice truck!!

Thanks man, I guess my link works.

It will be getting a rebuilt 700R4 and NP205 soon, like within the next two months.

Once that is done I have other things to get done before spring like get all the HVAC put back in.
