Looking to sell our 1974 Blazer. Second owner Arizona truck, very clean and stock. We were hoping to build it up into a nice competent, reliable family camping truck like the one I grew up with, but I never had the time to put into it. Loaned it to my brother last month for a couple weeks to use as a daily driver and the engine conked out on him.

Arizona truck. Second owner with all paperwork. Body is in great shape with new paint in 2009, and the top has never been removed.

We’ve put $5,500 worth of parts into improving the truck since 2004, including new Optima 3 year battery in 9/09, Huper-Optik heatproof window film, new tailgate latch, custom headers and dual exhaust, new bushings, BFG A/T tires (7,000 miles of 40,000 mile warranty), replaced front break lines, rebuilt front drive shaft, new weather stripping, steering wheel, speedometer, new thermostat and thermometer gauge, AC maintenance, tune-up, fuel line, new belts, new rearview mirror.

Engine just quit running, but otherwise the truck is in excellent condition inside and out.

My wife listed it at $7500, but I know that's high, considering it's not currently running. On the other hand, it is about the cleanest 74 I've ever seen.

So, you tell me, what SHOULD I be asking for it?

Thanks,

Unless you want to accept under $3K for it I highly recommend getting it running...$3K could be tough to get with it not running.

$5K-$7K is attainable, but it'll take some work on your part. Detail the hell out of it inside and out. Spend some time taking 20 or so really good high res pic's, inside, outside, underhood and underside.

I don't care what condition any rig is in, even I wouldn't pay $3K for something that old that doesn't run.

But like Rene said about spending some time to get it running again, cleaned up and a few pics, thats about the only way to get more dough. Be very thorough and detailed on the pics. Don't just show the exterior or interior. Get down on your back and take pics of the underside of the body. People want to see if there is rust down there or not. Even though you say no, the pics will be the solid proof they need.

Well If you don't want to sell it then yes your price is fine.

I really doubt you will get anyone to buy it with a bad engine.

I wouldn't pay more than a grand for a truck with a bad engine. How do I know the trans isn't bad too or the wiring or alot of other stuff as far as that goes if I can't drive it. I look at it as pretty much a clean body and thats it.

I really wouldn't expect you to get much more than 1500-2k for it. Doesn't matter how good of shape its in. It doesn't run.

With a motor in it and running good well then I would expect quite alot for a truck like that. As long as it is in fact as nice as you say it is. Guys who are willing to pay above 5k for a truck like that usually know exactly what they want. They know about these trucks and if they see something indicating that something isn't as nice as you describe they will run away from it

Good luck with the sale.

<sigh> Yeah, I'm sure you guys are right. My wishful thinking was just that if it's going to need major engine work or a new motor that it'd make more sense for the new owner to choose the options. But, there's a MUCH bigger market for a VEHICLE rather than a PROJECT.

With just one photo from 20' away I'd say you have a $1500 truck, tops. On top of that, you say the engine just "quit". What does that mean? Does that mean you blew it, dropped a piston, seized the engine ... or is it just a bad coil or something small? Whatever it is, you need to fix it.

I would suggest you post 10-20 photos of every angle so folks can really see what it looks like. With no photos of the body, dash, seats, floors, engine, frame, and so forth, most people will assume it's rusted out or tore up. Why else would you be "hiding" things by not showing photos?

I have a photo of my old Blazer at that same angle. It looks fantastic. However, when you see more up close photos you'll see it's going to need a lot of work.

Thanks everybody for all your input!

I'll get some more detailed pics up (probably won't be until the weekend though).

I'm not sure what exactly let loose in the engine, I wasn't even there. But my brother tells me it started making a noise that got exponentially louder and within moments it went BANG and lots of smoke came out the exhaust.

sounds like timing chain broke, valves clashed with pistons...drain the oil and see if its milky
