I'm about to embark on a frame off restomod of my 1975 K5. I was lucky enough to acquire two rotisseries for a great price so one will hold the frame and the other the cab/body. My body mounts are in good shape so I was planning on using these locations to attach the body to a sub frame that will then attach to the rotisserie. I intend to brace the door openings and the windshield before I take it off the frame but was wondering if this is enough as I will be cutting out a significant amount of the floor/rockers/etcetera to repair. I'll was thinking that maybe and x-brace to keep the sides from flexing in? Any advise on mounting this to keep it from twisting or any other suggestions will be welcomed.
For the frame I also intended to use the body mount locations to tie to a sub frame that will then attach to the rotisserie but should probably brace it in a few more strategic locations as I'm probably going to box the frame. I'm also going to have a full cage so I'm on the fence on the frame boxing. It would be good to learn of your experiences and thoughts. With a cage, frame boxing may not be required.
I'm planning on doing some moderate wheeling with this truck in the Colorado and Moab areas. Just like everyone other restomoder out there I'm planning on a cooperate 14 bolt for the rear, dana 60 for the front and a 6L w/4L80e transmission. Tires will be less than 40" (thinking 35s) to keep the center of gravity low and the body trimming to a reasonable level. I'm also probably going to stick with leaf springs as linked suspension will blow my already large budget. My bride and I typically wheel alone so looking for reliable.
Thanks in advance.
