Step 1 - swap axles which means spring perch cutting and welding. One question...since this is a C&C axle when I swap to srw hubs tod make it full width does it change where the brake mounts on the inside? I think not but maybe otherwise the brake would be totally inboard of the wheel.
Step 2 - suspension, 52s up front. Back the based on junkyard finds
I figured I'd swap the front first...I forgot how damnnheavy those dana60's are....I am out of 1 ton shape, it took me almost 7 hours to get both axles out and get the pickup all setup. A lot of it was rigging and moving the axles around on Jack's, but whatever...
5" of lift...ha. need a few more inches then start thinking about that front shackle angle. I've got some 6" tough country 47's but might have to go 52's or ?
Factory disc brakes have the emergency brake inside the rotor, kind of a cool setup so if for some reason all the fluid goes away you can stop (or at least slow down)
Got one truck put back together and ready to go...anybody got a pic of a d60 passenger side mount? There is a big gap between the spring and the pumpkin...normal or bent studs?
I was waiting for parts so went snow wheeling in my other rig and had to do a little fixing over there. Im still waiting for a few more things, but cleaned up the frame a little, will put in a hatch since the gas tank is out and hopefully get the axle sorted out. Seems trivial, but figuring out what truck teh 14ff came out of was a little harder than I thought, but I needed that info to get the correct calipers, seals, etc...
normal BS, a little wire wheel, a little rust bullet and then a little paint
Put the tank back in and then looked through the parts pile in the back of my house and bam...found a gas tank cover! Also, threw in a hatch, started cleaning up the 14bolt and did some little things like fixing the cables etc... I'll need to figure out shocks soon, thinking 14" Bilstein 5125's, but open to suggestions
