1977 Chevy C10 shortbed resurection/restomod/ratrod

I just need to patch the rust along the seam. It leaks water into the cab when it rains.

Stripped down the donor firewall to only essential sheetmetal. I still won't use but 10%of what is left as patch panels but I would rather have a little extra and still be easy to store until I use it.

I arranged to sell the red primer hood to a friend and swapped the yellow hood on instead. Eventually I will patch up the original and put it back on though. I noticed this hood still didn't sit down all the way either so I swapped the hinges out for a better pair. One side goes all the way down now, the other almost does.

I have to ask. Do you know the trick to getting the hinges to pull the hood down?
Just loosen the rear bolts for the hinge on the fender a ways, then loosen the front one enough for the hinge to pivot on it. Lift up on the front of the hood, as to open it more, until the hinge rotates towards the cab. Tighten the bolts while holding the hood up. I would go just a little bit since you only need that small amount. It's possible to go too far with decent hinges and pull the hood too far down.

How much play is there in those bolt holes? I have this same problem with my 76.

It seems like almost a 1/4". I know that the '72 and older are slotted some and I believe that the '73 and up are as well. (Memory loss...) I have done this adjustment on lots of them. It works well even if the hinges are fairly worn.

Hmm mine is probably a every bit of a 1/4. Never thought about that I could fix it that way. I might have to check it out.

I tried that trick on my 73, but it didn't help. It might have changed a little, but not enough.

My problem is my aftermarket cowl hood. It's probably not as good as a factory hood to start with.
Most likely I'll have to elongate the holes. But right now I can't because it has an important job of holding the chevelle part receipts.
So maybe I'll mess with it later.

It depends some on how good the hinges are. I got one to go from above the fender about an inch, to just right. If you have the hinge rocked all of the way, I would bet that the hinges are too worn. But it's possible to increase the slot length in the hinges too. Can even add some travel to the front hole in the hinge, but I believe that the main objective is to get the central part of the hinge downward. Make it do what you want!! Die grinder with a carbide bit.
:waytogo:

Not so must a trick but the way they designed the hinge. They are slotted to pivot around the front bolt when adjusting. I have this one set as low as it goes and it outs perfect on the driver side but slightly higher on the passenger side.

Yup. But I have had a couple of guys call it a trick when I showed them. Loosen bolts while they hold the hood, then tell them to lift more. I then tightened the bolts.. method, trick, same thing right?
:dunno: :haha:
