1977 Chevy C10 shortbed resurection/restomod/ratrod

I might be interested. My C10 has some sort of tire carrier but it's not in use and I need to see if all the pieces are there are not.

Were there different types of them?

Would a 31" tire fit on this one?

There are two different types. This one is a quick release setup. I'm too tired to dig up the correct photo to show how it works, but I can get you one tomorrow.

That's cool. Out of probably 30 or so of these trucks that have passed through my hands I don't think I've ever had one that had the spare or spare tire carrier still. Other than my k5 since it was inside it.

My shortbed was the first I have ever seen out of hundreds of trucks I've owned or parted out (or seen in wrecking yards). The new longbed parts truck is the second and it is the same year and color as my shortbed.

I spent the weekend making space in my cramped shop for a freezer and to bring the C10 in to begin a year down.

My list:
Pull motor and transmission
Strip dash
Finish rust repair in firewall and floors
Smooth out firewall?
Finish assembly on new motor
Rebuild core 700R4
Research and buy parts for aftermarket FI
Install new motor and transmission
Recover bucket seats
Reinstall dash and new wiring harness
Install new sound deadening, floor mat, and bucket seats/ console
Install original yellow paint trim and NOS Scottsdale badges

I'm sure I'm think of/ find more to do as I go.

Wall art I assume?

Yes, I sold the bed to a guy wanting to skip out on the joy of rust repair though so I may do something similar with the back of that rusty bed too unless someone needs bedsides and wants to fix them. I can drop them off in Nebraska after Christmas...

I did pull the worn out motor and transmission and sold them off a while back. The new motor is in a stand ready to go and I still need to build the 700R4 I have on the shelf.

Are you going to build the transmission yourself? If so, post a little bit about it when you do. I haven't done one by myself, helped a buddy build a couple for me, but he was a master at it, so I didn't do much.

It’s not (hard), if your mechanically inclined. You do need some stuff though. A clean workbench, the atsg book, (and the update book). A case of brakleen, air compressor with blowgun, and a couple special tools. And assembly lube(I like blue)
It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole building a 700r4. It’s been updated and improved every year it was made. Five pinion planets, auxiliary valvebody, shafts, drums, pistons ahhhhh:zombie15:
