So, it's happening! The block is balanced and all that good stuff. Crank and pistons are being slapped in today. The monster is coming along nicely. Hope to have it done by early January.

Please chime in if you have any input or questions for me. It's my first BBC and I hope I am doing it right…that's the fun part though. Live and learn #YOLO :)

Post up some specs (comp, cam, fuel system, etc).

I will have to get my build sheet. I don't have the exact specs on pistons, crank and cam on me.

But I do have the rest.

Block - 454 Gen V 4 bolt
Keith Black pistons - will look up build sheet
Lunati Voodoo Cam (solid roller) - will look up build sheet
Eagle Crank - will look up build sheet
Eagle connecting rods
AFR 290 CC Heads (solid roller set up)
PRW 1.7 Aluminum Roller Tip Rockers
Comp Double roller chain
Edelbrock Vic Jr intake manifold (single Plane oval port)
QFT 950 CFM Black Diamond Carb (4150 style)
Summit Racing Street Stip Billet Distributor
Cal Customs Valve Covers
Holley HP 125 Electric Fuel Pump - I will have to replace with larger fuel lines
Weiand Water pump
Summit Racing 140 AMP alternator
Canton Racing 9" oil pan
CVR Steel Alloy oil pump with 9" pick up

Dang, that's a lot of neat parts. What will you do with the truck, bog it? What are the specs on the truck?

Yup, I'm in over my head! Truck has a 4" rough country lift with 33x12.5x15 BFG all terrain tires. Stock th350, stock, np203 Currently powered by a pretty hott SBC 350. Stock 12 bolt rear and Dana 44 up front with stock gears. I plan on doing a shackle flip with a traction bar. Then upgrading to a 14 bolt ff with 4.10 gears and lsd. Getting a built TH400 with np208 next. I'm thinking 35x12.5x15 tsl boggers might work. I plan on sand dragging it and high speed trail riding. Should Be fun. Definitely going to need a roll cage ASAP.

Right on!
That BB should be quite something!

Why a single plane intake though...I can see for sand drags but. I guess it don't matter to much, should be plenty of torque. :D

I hope so. Yup single plane manifolds work great on stroker engines. I'll be at 7200 RPM's at red line. Low end torque is not an issue with this set up I don't think. Gearing will definitely help me of course as well as an MSD 6AL.

This sounds like a parts breaker!
AWESOME!

Yup I'm sure the first pass down the track I make will brake something lol. I got me a TH400 modded for drag racing from my father in law. He owns a transmission shop in Apopka Florida. Now I need an NP208 and some other supporting mods like chromeolly axle shafts and new drive shafts with stronger ujoints. Ugh.

Been a WHILE!

Status:

Built HD NP208 and reverse manual valve body HD TH400...working on instal VERY soon. Will be going with a 10" 4200 stall ACC Torque converter from KMJ Performance.

Engine is almost 50% complete.

Thats a sweet big block. Are the KB pistons hypereutectic or forged? I would defeinitely go forged if you plan on spraying it. Although I have gotten away with spray for quite a while on the hypers, I know that is pushing it.

Also, I think everything looks sweet, the only things that don't appear to match very well are the solid roller cam and single plane intake with oval port heads. If you were going solid roller and single plane I probably would of went with rectangular ports. But I am sure it will still run pretty good!

I'm diggin the engine, I like big blocks.

Is the eagle crank a stroker crank or a std crank? And did you mean eagle connecting rods? I wasn't aware eagle made pushrods. I'll be watching, big blocks rule. :waytogo:

Hey thanks!

The single plane intake I got is oval port as well which will match up with the Heads. Never thought about what would run better on a solid roller set up regarding rectangular vs oval...food for thought lol

AFR BBC 290cc Oval Port fully CNC ported, Competition Package, completele w/ Solid Roller Springs, 112cc Combustion Chambers

Yeah the KB pistons are forged. Connecting rods are Eagle and forged aluminum as well. The Crank is a stroker and is a forged steel by Eagle.

Push rods are by COMP lol

Yeah the cam I'm using is a Lunati Voodo solid roller:

int/exh: 285/293
Duration @ .050 int/exh: 255/263
Lift: int/exh: .680/.680
RPM range 3000-7200

I have ordered a 10" PTC Race tourque converter with a 4200 stall as well

4.11 gears with a detroit locker for the GM 12 bolt on 33's. Should be fun!

Upgrading the axles up front and in the rear and freshening up with bearing kits and matching 4.11's for the Dana 44.

With that cam I would think you would get a little more ponies out of rect ports, but those are really nice heads, good quality.

Are you sure you have aluminum rods? I've only ever seen those used in drag cars because the life span is pretty short on them. Have to be changed every couple hundred runs or so if I recall. They do rev quick though and can help absorb shock loads from nitrous.
