1977 K5 Blazer

Garage Restoration Of My '77 Blazer
Wrapped up the interior "resto" today. Slowed myself down by separately ordering two individual sheets of sound deadener to cover the wheel wells but no big deal. Ended up using 108 sq. ft. to cover the entire floor, roof, doors, and bed sides with minimal overlap. I did end up buying a new molded carpet set to replace the roached carpet that I'm guessing was original to the truck. I wasn't going to spring for it but knew I'd kick myself every time driving it if the old carpet went back in. I'm not completely stoked on the overall fit and quality, there's an overlap on the trans tunnel and a couple other issues which could also be due to user error, but overall I'm happy with the end result as far as color and feel go. I can see switching it out for vinyl in the future?

Not gonna lie, there came point during re-installation of the seats, console, and carpet trim while poking around and cutting through the carpet and insulation to find all the bolt holes that I thought there was no way all that work would be worth the trouble. That feeling dissipated IMMEDIATELY during the first cruise tonight. HOLY COW. The carpet and insulation make a difference but I have to give massive props to the Dynamat product. After eliminating a couple squeaks and rattles I swear the interior sound level is comparable to a modern vehicle. I'm beyond impressed with the results and excited about the enhanced livability.

Swapping in the pickup tailgate was a breeze, hinge and trunion hardware was a couple bucks on LMC. Chased the threads that have never seen a bolt and everything fit up nicely. The bumper keeps it from laying completely flat so I'll have to see if messing with the angles improves anything. Still lays much flatter than the K5 tailgate did during a test fit. It takes a good amount of force to latch closed but I blame the aftermarket hardware. Will be breaking out the dremel to size up those latch cut-out's.

Digging on the patina so I'm leaving it un-painted for now.
