1978 K20 farm truck "Boring maintenance phase"

1978 K20- Rusty beater farm truck
Ok. Maybe we can set something up.

Not 100% sure but I may be heading your way, in September. If not I can just make a day of it for a Saturday truck ride.

That'd be fine just let me know. I've got it on the engine stand and still sealed up quite well

So a 7.3 huh? I'm not opposed. My buddy's 7.3 is a work horse.

My 7.3 never disappointed me either after I rescued it from the junkyard with 211,000 miles on it. And it's not the same old Cummins swap that everyone does.

Exactly why I would do a duramax swap over a Cummins swap in my crew cab if I ever changed engines.

I would love a duramax swap. Who knows I may end up with a Cummins anyways due to the yard near me having like 15 of sitting around. Either way it'll have to wait a couple years before starting on that project.

Stupid Fed-ex. UPS would've had these to me yesterday. Instead they went on a seven city adventure in Ohio before finally leaving the state. But either way they're here. Normally people don't go from headers to manifolds but I'm not normal.

Something I didn't realize is that the Dorman manifolds come with the O2 sensor in the same location as stock. Last one I got for a GMT400 I had to weld a bung in the tube.

Got the alternator wired in using an AC delco pigtail with a 50 ohm resistor already in place. The coil and tach are also wired in finally. The wiring still looks terrible but it'll look better when I finally get it all tied up not hanging loose. This wasn't the end of my progress for the evening but it was the last picture I got before dark.

When did hydroboost enter the picture?

Hydro boost went in last year with the 465 since my pedals were from the C30 that donated its tilt column and tach cluster. And the AC compressor is just hanging out because the aftermarket delete pulleys are flimsy crap. I have a 210 York compressor with a brand new serpentine clutch on it that I will eventually mount there for onboard air.

Take note of the heat only heater box. That will hopefully go by the wayside in favor of my aftermarket heater before winter. This truck will likely never have AC even when the cab I have from a 79 Silverado goes on.

Thanks Greg! I'm hoping to hit it hard this evening and get the bed and ag hitch ripped off for good. Then tomorrow if I've got time I'll work on mounting the suburban tank and running fuel lines

What did you wind up doing with the skid plate?

So Tuttle next month then?

If I had my F150 done if be all over that! But the K20 isn't going to ever see Tuttle for wheeling reasons. Wouldn't want to beat up my pristine sheet metal :haha:

And Ethan the skid plate is yours. It won't do me any good on this truck anyways

And next month will put us right in the middle of harvest also. I'll likely not be on CK5 for most of harvest due to horrible reception in the goat hills we farm

Goats grow on trees?

You've clearly never been to treeless Iowa. :haha: :rotfl:
