1978 K20 farm truck "Boring maintenance phase"

1978 K20- Rusty beater farm truck
How are the BFG's holding up? Both on the gravel and off?

These are all used take-offs from the 2500HD, it only got around 10,000 to a set normally but that was across all brands of tire I tried. On this thing with 1/3 the power and never towing heavy things they haven’t really shown any sign of wear since I put them on it. I’m thinking 4.10’s and mud terrains for it next though. Or leave the 3.73’s and go for more power

I like this truck!

Thanks man me too! Looking into welding in some patch panels to make the cab more enjoyable. Right now it’s like a tin shack in a hurricane. Living on gravel it’s not unusual to have a rock come off a front tire and go bouncing around the cab

We call those speed holes. Once you have enough add-on weight reducing you take your turn down at the drag strip. ;)

Cool thanks. I was wondering since I have the same thing to put on my crew cab.

650ft-lbs of torque on sharp gravel routinely hooked to a trailer full of round bales

I'm no stranger to gravel or hay bales. As for 650 ft-lbs, I think you have a foot pound problem. Specifically, I think your right foot weighs too many pounds. :haha: :rotfl:

Minor update, this truck picked up a younger brother this weekend. Same exact drivetrain to boot! It’s a bit rusty due to having the sander in it for a number of years. But luckily the frame has escaped the level of cancer that the box has.

Sitting on the auction grounds. This is it’s ugly side

The sander didn’t help the box out much......

Not too bad on mileage, needs some head work most likely as it appears the valve guided leaks. Along with the leaks from every single other place on the engine

And the main reason I bought it. Shifts like a dream and had a clutch not long before the guy quit using it

Overall for $500 I’m pretty happy with my score. Tires are decent in tread and will last the summer most likely, cruise control even functions! Will have to replace the exhaust, box, and fuel tank/filler neck. The engine runs good other than needing general maintenance and tons of cleaning/resealing.

Depending on what else I find wrong with it this may be the rig that takes me up north where @campfire lives this fall

Yeah, something about a new project just fires me up. I wish I could find that same fire for my other projects.

I think a lot of us are likely guilty! I’m neglecting the turbo on my other truck because it still works and farting around with rust junk. Makes sense

One of these days I'm going to have a square body for a daily company vehicle. I keep threatening to do it.

Both the maroon K2500 and the disk. For as ugly as it is the K20 is one of my favorite things to drive

I had one of those moments today as I ran Big Blue through its first test drive today. It's always a special day when it sneaks back onto the road. :saweet: :burnout:

@GWeakland620, the ADHD answer to your project boredom is to let them sit around for months on end. Then when you get back to them it feels like a brand new project. :wink1: :haha:
