I have a 1979 gmc sierra classic and i got it from california. I guess that i just had a few questions.

It seems like everyone hates all that stuff?
Is it robbing power from my engine?
What can i take off?
Where is it located in my truck?
Best stratagy for doing this?

2 part answer.

Part 1 - My 79 Blazer had ALL of the emission equipment missing. I had to replace it all because of local emission testing.

My truck runs better with the emission stuff. If its not broken - don't fix it. Fixing it until it's broken is not a good idea.

Part 2 - geek answer - Under federal guidelines, the emission stuff is supposed to stay on.

Others say that their trucks ran better without it and yanked all of it.

The 79 emission stuff is very minor. A couple of vacuum lines, vacuum operated vents and an EGR valve is about it.

No, it's not robbing much power.

AIR pump is the only "active" emissions device that needs to be run off of engine power, and 5HP is a commonly cited number for what it needs to be run.

Other than that, it is all "passive". EGR, AIR, EVAP, none of it (if present and working correctly) reduces performance.

With my 78' k5 it was origanaly from california.all i didnt was pull the pully off of the air pump and but a smaller belt on. nice and simple and if you ever have to do emision just put it back on.
